We think Holly is about 8 years old, but other people have estimated her at closer to 11 (w00t)

She has had 3 seasons since she has been with us in 15 months. the first one was a really heavy messy affair :x , the second seemed normal , and she finished her third about 5 weeks ago, and it seemed to go on forever, 5 weeks. The dogs are all sniffing her bum again now, she surely cant be going to come into season again already.

Eating and exercising as normal, no change in behaviour, so I don't think it will be pyometra.

I would take her to the vet but I dont want her to go in and have an op or any tests unless absolutely necessary as she will be devastated. Do you think there is anything to worry about? I'm obviously going to keep an eye on her, but what exactly should my eye be looking for? :b

Haven't got a clue buddy :( Hope your almost bestest is OK though. May-be she should have her doobries done?????? It would prevent horrible nasties in the urterine area. She's as strong as an Ox that one. Up to you my friend, I might go down that Cul-de-sac if she were my noisy bugg*r though!

I would wait for month or two and then have her spayed, it is not good for her to be in season every 5 months and it maybe an harbinger of some serious problem brewing. Spaying will make it easier for her and for you, and you will not have to worry about pyo or uterine cancer. :luck:

Just a thought Rae, but have you tried taking her temperture ?

Even though shes behaving normaly, a rise in body temp could be an indication of things going on.

Sorry to hear she's worrying you like this ...

I'd be inclined to agree with some of the others and consider having her spayed. There are a couple of things which spring to mind as potential problems, so I think you should maybe make an appointment to have her examined by your vet and to have a frank discussion with them about what steps to take (or not).

I can understand your reluctance to have loads of tests done (your vet should understand this too - you have the right to say no!). Quite often we get people saying "I didn't want to bring her in, I was afraid you'd tell me she had to be put down" when the dog has really mild arthritis or something - don't forget that you're the decision-maker, not the vet! You should explain right from the start that it's important to you that she doesn't undergo lots of stressful interference.

I hope things get sorted out for you both :luck:

Thanks all. :) I know I will have to get her speyed, but I'm dreading it. I wish they would let you sedate the dog and stay with them before they got taken into the kennel area. She'll be devastated if she thinks I've left her. :(

Good idea Wendy - No I hadnt thought of taking the temperature :b

Hang on...she is asleep with a therometer up her bum..........so I hope that's how you do it .

Temperatre taken by her own private Nurse (Gaz is a nurse)

is 37.5 is that OK?

Well its a bit low........... normal temp 38.3 .......... but as she was asleep at the time, that could account for it............ unless shes about to go into labour ! (w00t)

I can sympathize with you; I also hate leaving any of my animals at the surgery. But once they are sedated it only takes minutes for them to be in deep sleep. It is just a minor upset and could prevent multitude of possible future problems.

well i dont actually think thats not an impossible thing to ask...try it...i took gypsy last thing before she was to be done so she wasnt hanging around and she was then sedated and done straight away...i then picked her up almost as soon as she woke up....im sure if you ask they will let you do whatever is best for the dog...hope they will...good luck :luck:

she will be fine

have to say though...the worst thing i ever did was try to assist on my own dog years ago...i did it once on an anal gland removal which is an interesting op to assist with so i thought i would give it a go....NEVER AGAIN did i ever watch one of my own in surgery...its different when its your own...i used to tell everyone"dont worry" but when it was one of mine then i would cry like a baby when they went to sleep and nobody could console me :b

Hi Rae,

Have you asked the vet if it is possible for you to stay with her till shes been sedated, Mark has to stay with Rose if she needs to go in as when she was about 3 she took one of the vets brand new cages to pieces, (w00t) he also then rings him up to tell him shes coming round so she can see him when she wakes up. :luck: With Holly
