has anyone tryed putting a white or light colored think jacket on there dark coloured dogs in the summer to reflect the sun and did it work.

Our shelby is all black and hes getting on a bit now and he feels the heat when out in the sun even if only for a few mints I had a thought of making him a white very thin jackets to help reflect the sun anyone recon it will work and has anyone tryed it with there dogs
 
Yes I have seen them on Newfoundlands, to help them cope with the Australian summer heat.

Hiya,a white cotton T shirt is perfect for reflecting the heat in summer,and cheap.I just sewed it under the chest so it wasnt too baggy. :thumbsup:

it will only take me 15 mins to make a lightweight jacket just wondered if they helped as my big black greyhound turns nocturnal in the summer poor lad and ens up staying home when the others come out for the day
 
I'd thought about that as well and was thinking of making a cape for our little Inky, but havent got round to it and with the amount he rolls it would soon be brown :x
 
hia wendy with our dogs wen we have heat waves and really hot weather we put white cotton soak them in cold water and put them on the dog debbie made us coats a one for each dog lol while they were waitin 2 run last yr at devon well thts wot we do :cheers: :thumbsup: hope you find wot ur lookin for

wendy i use a wet towel draped over my old black boy in the summer

i never tried a white jacket but i cant see any reason why it shouldn`t work
 
well got some white fabric and will make him a jaceket up in the next few days its only very light but it will be ok to wet aswell if its realy hot so he should have a more comgortabel summer this year hopfully thanks for all your help
