Hi to all,

We have recently acquired our first whippet (pedigree dog ....4 months old) and would very much appreciate some advice on how to get involved in whippet racing in the South West of England. We're from Devon and would initally like to go along to a race event just to see what's involved and get to meet other owners.

Can anyone help with details of events in this area? Many thanks.

Bill

First you'll be watching the racing, then you'll be racing and befor you know it you'll be hooked with a house full of Whippets  .............I've e-mailed you with some telephone numbers and areas, hope this helps  Hannah

Hi Bill

Why not come to Gloucester this Sunday? We have our Open starting at 12.00pm. There will be dogs from all over the country, I think we have just over 140 entries. You will see the best dogs around, and probably meet people from the West Somerset club, which is possibly the nearest to you. If you want to look on the map to see how far it is, it's near Staverton - follow M5 to junction 11a, coming from the south you turn left onto the A417 - go straight over the first roundabout, and turn right at the second. At the next roundabout, you go straight across (there are a few exits, but the one you want is signposted Churchdown). Follow the road straight through the traffic lights at Churchdown, and keep going straight. After you pass a garage on the left, and the golf course, you need to turn left into Down Hatherley Lane - (there's a caravan sales place on the right almost opposite the turning). Go down Down Hatherley Lane, and quite soon turn right into Dowty Sports Ground. Once you turn in, you'll soon see the whippets on your left hand side.

Hope you can make it, but if not perhaps you could ring Margaret or Stephen Robinson from West Somerset WRC - it's a lovely club, and you'd be made welcome. I don't have the number, but I'll bet Hannah has emailled it to you.

Let us know how you get on

The West Somerset club run near Taunton. Is that anywhere near you ?

Hannah they will be hooked on whippets anyway 'cause they have a relative of Bean. Oh and Mouse (w00t) well hopefully their little black person will be more like Bean than Mouse.

Or he'll be like Lyd's Guy. Nope one itsn't enough.

Thanks to all for your kind replies. Sorry I've taken so long to reply - been away for a week. I've taken note of the tel numbers you emailed me Hanna and I'll be getting in touch with Margaret or Steve soon. Thank you.

June - Sorry I couldn't make it up to Gloucestershire on the Sunday (other committments.)

Went to a non-Pedigree meeting yesterday (6th June) in Cullompton, Devon and yes....I'm hooked.

Bee_Jay, read with interest your comments on my pup's ancestory (sp?). Small world indeed.

Thanks again to all. :)
