Hello,

we are the proud owners of a 2 year old whippet bitch and we are thinking of breeding from her. Can anyone tell us how we go about looking for a stud dog for her, please. We live in Wiltshire, but are of course willing to travel for the right one....

Regards,

Sandra

Hi! sandra welcome to K9, a lot will depend on what sort of stud dog you are looking for and what kind of pups you are wanting to breed ie: show/racing/coursing/pet ect if you give a few more details someone should be able to point you in the right direction

My best bit of advice would be to get in touch with the breeder of your bitch and ask them what dog they would use. They would probably know more than anyone about what suits.

If you provide the details of your *bitches pedigree, we will be able to help with some suggestions, maybe!!

would this be the first litter you have bred, it seems it might.

Before you go ahead with this think long term its not all about sweet puppies.

Im not suggesting you are in this for the money, but it can become expensive,

very time consuming and a lot of worry and at the end of that you say good buy and hope for the best.

And don't forget you must be able to keep any puppies that you don't sell for as long as it takes to home them and also a good breeder must be able to take back any dog they have bred at any time during it's life if the owner cannot keep it for any reason. Make sure that you get this bit in writing and signed by the new owner so that they cannot just rehome your babies. A simple sentence saying that the dog must come back to you if they are unable to keep him/her at any time is all that is needed. Also if you endorse the puppies from export/breeding make sure that the new owners are aware of this, get this in writing and signed as well. Put the details in basic English that a 5-year-old would understand so that there is no comebacks. Keep a copy yourself and give the new owner a copy as well.]

Also I agree with Karen to contact the breeder of your bitch as they should be able to reccommed dogs that would suit your needs best.

Oh and Good Luck :luck: and remember if you do have pups we need pictures
