I am just wondering does the KC have rules on how many litters a bitch can have throughout her life?

As far as I'm aware if a breeder isn't a licenced breeder then the only 'controls' come from being a member of a breed club and thus having to stick to their laid down rules on breeding ie age at which to have a first litter. Or the KC have an upper age limit which can be lifted if the breeder has a good enough reason for it.

At one point they had a rule about not registering more than one litter to a bitch in a year but they lifted that a few years ago.

I know of one whippet bitch who has had 5 registered litters so far. Her daughter (kept by the breeder) has had 3 so far.

THE KENNEL CLUB WILL NOT ACCEPT AN APPLICATION TO REGISTER A LITTER WHEN A BITCH HAS ALREADY WHELP SIX LITTERS.

ALSO WILL NOT REGISTER A LITTER IF A BITCH IS UNDER THWELVE MONTHS AND ALSO REACH THE AGE OF EIGHT AT DATE OF WHELP.

Am not sure but i think most experience breeders would only take a litter from a bitch once a year and maybe only have 2 or 3 litters from that bitch in her life time. I think the Kennel Club only allows you to register one litter a year. Maybe a question to ask is at what age would you bred from a bitch? and at what age do breeders believe is too old ?

the bitch has to be 12 months old at time of MATING not whelping

i think about 21/2 to 31/2 is the best time for a first litter but this will vary a lot if the bitch is doing well at the chosen sport .

Hoping to have a litter from my dog, she's 2 yr old this april, so perhaps the next season, she's still a pup yet

That must of been when Buffys mum was born, shame really considering the ruling's been lifted since. Not that it makes any difference to me or what I would do with my dogs but there's a few out there that give KC papers more credit that what they're worth. I know of someone in poodles who got round this by registering non-existant pups from her first litter so she had papers for her second litter. :- "
