Do you guys run your dogs on both Saturdays and Sundays (ie two days in a row)?

Every weekend? And how many runs per day do they do?

Here in North America dogs usually run four races per day (although sometimes it's three on the longer ovals) and many people run their dogs two days in a row. I was wondering what the norm was in the UK.

I have visited Southern California a couple of times and visited the racing and thought it very tough on the dogs. I know most of them which are called 'pedigrees' weigh between 30 - 40lbs or more but even so 8 races per week-end is a bit much. If our supreme days racing winner gets 5 races we think it a lot and usually its only one day per week-end. Usually we are lucky to get 2 runs per week-end.

:D hi poeta me again. It all depends on what you run in. If you run in a club handicap and your dog wins its heat it will then go into the semi final and if it wins that it will run in the final. So that would be 3 runs unless of course there is any mishaps and you have to have a re-run.

Onto your open races. It all depends on the size of your dog and the weight class. Scratch racing is a bit different as sometimes there is only one heat making that the final so the dog will just get one run unless there is a supreme they can run in that 2 runs. The smaller dogs generally speaking tend to run more in an open race. The same as handicap if they win their heat go into the semi finals if they win that go into the main final if they win that go into the supreme final. Dogs and bitches (not scratch) race separatly in weight classes and the winning dog and winning bitch compete for supreme dog of the day. scratch racing dogs and biitches run together. I hope I havent bored you too much with that but as people will know once I start I just cant stop.

p.s. sometimes in a big event dogs will run both days. there is handicaps on boths days as well. It all depends it all depends on the individual for running both days.

hi Louise

Received your e-mail. If you e-mail me your address in Canada, I will post a copy of my book off to you.

Hi, :p the ammount of runs a dog has depends on really how many dogs have entered that weight class..ie if there are 16 dogs entered in one weight group then there will be heats and crossheats, then on to the class final........you then have to run your dog in the final...... :D it isn't too bad so long as there isn't a lot of reruns  .........they canny little dogs whippets are :teehee:
