Anyone ever had it?

Over the last 5 weeks I've hardly been able to eat because of it. Lost 3kgs in weight and I haven't that to lose :(

That doesn't sound good. Have you seen a doctor for it, and have they been able to help?

I haven’t… nor had I heard of it.

Did a quick Google and causes are numerous.

Have you been able to pinpoint what might have triggered it?

Would a nose clip help you to eat some nourishing food at least?

Hope you can get it sorted 🤞

I have mentioned it quite often to my GP. I've had it for a while but not this bad. They don't seem to take much notice. Had a chat to my Rheumatologist who deals with my LVV, but he just seemed to shrug it off, even though I've read it can be triggered by my autoimmune disease.
The only person who has listened is my physio. She is sending the GP a letter.
Hopefully then, they will take it seriously

Really. Do you have any of the triggers?
The only reason I looked it up is because I haven't been able to eat a proper meal for so long
I have autism and as a part of that suffer anxiety and panic attacks.

A heightened sense of smell is just one of the sensory issues I have to deal with.

I didn't know there was a word for it, but I had that in the first 3 or 4 months of pregnancy... thankfully it waned! Though I always have had an acute sense of smell...just not to that degree. The little bit of googling I just did suggests ear, nose and throat specialists?
I hope you find some answers soon, I remember it was horrible...

Yes. I have suffered from it all my life, and it is a severe quality of life issue, and one of the main reasons I had to retire early. I have never found a GP to take it seriously. It continues to worsen, and after the three covid vaccines it became about a hundred times worse.

I have a disorder that affects all my senses, hearing, and vision and touch and taste are affected too. There is an umbrella condition name for it called MCS - Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, or Environmental Illness but again most medical people just roll their eyes at it.

I can't go anywhere really. I mean, I have to go to the grocery store, but shopping in stores is impossible now. The chemical smells make me ill immediately. Even walking into the post office today I had to turn around and walk back out because someone was either in there or had been in there reeked of some kind of perfume.

@Rona what is it about it that is causing your appetite loss? Is it because the food smells bad to you?

I've had trouble since I started on MTX but it's just got worse and worse over time

Oh, any smell can make me want to heave but food smells especially meat are a bit of a problem

I struggle with food smells too so I have an idea how you feel, it's awful. Meat, fish and 'hot' foods like curry are the worst, they all make me feel sick.

I hate the smell of food too. Especially things like green peppers, or garlic or oncions or mushrooms cooking, yes they make me very ill. But ugh, just walking into work (before I retired) after lunch, and the building would reek of anyone who ate their lunch in the building, whehter they ordered in, or used the microwave downstars, I would be ill the rest of the day from it. I jsut can't stand any smells.

I don't know that medication, but I am sure there are a lot of medications that can make these intolerances worse. I just looked up MTX, it's a chemo drug? OH yet, I have several friends who have been on chemo, and/or are still on it, that have developed this problem in one form or another. My friend Barbara, we've been friends for over 50 years, and she has always been completely oblivious to smells, and struggled to understand my disability with it, then she had breast cancer and now she can't tolerate most smells. It was a compete turn around for her.

However, I think the way this world is being flooded with chemicals and crap, more and more people are suffering from this. Now that I watch TV, only the free with ads channels, and I see all these ads for BODY DEODORANTS (disgusting, ugh!) AND fragrance this for your home and that for your laundry and something else for your car...it's no wonder so many people are sick from this stuff.
