I just wondered what forms of ID you have on your dogs, are your dogs chipped,

or tattooed even?

What's your opinion of tattoos, and microchips?

Both of my dogs are microchipped and neither are out of our sight for a moment also husband 6ft 7'' with a baseball bat to hand at all times (w00t) LOL

To be honest, not a lot to choose between the 2.

Mine are all chipped BUT have to say 2 of my chips have migrated right down their front legs, i can see them & feel them & hope to god should they ever get lost a vet would scan them intricately :- "

On the downside i hear that a lot of "dog thieves" have invested now in a scanner & just try & hack the chip out

Tattoos whether it be in ears or groins, some fade & "ink bleed" so bad that they cant be read properly.

Plenty of cases of ears hacked off and/or chunks hacked out of groins trying to remove.

Case of "devil & the deep blue sea" i'm afraid

mine are chipped.

last week in our paper said about theifs using acid ti try and "burn" out an ear tatto! :(

My older lot are micro chipped, but as I know they are easy to cut out and they do migrate, I got my younger ones tattooed as I have also done with the 2 litters that I've bred :)

:) Mine are chipped, but as you say they will find some kind of way to get them out  What i will add is that if anybody stole my dogs and i found out who they were, I WOULD DO TIME, !!!!! :- " Diane.

Both of mine are microchipped  Love the way that now with the Pet ID upgrade there are so many ways of informing them incase you lose your dog - although my boys are never out of sight so hopefully won't ever have to use this :- " :D

What do you think you are warming to more? :- "

Sadly this does happen, but it's very rare in a lurcher. Most of the time is the racing greys when an owner is trying to stop a dumped dog being traced to them.

It has happened recently to a lurcher, but in the end they got him back (I don't know the circumstances of his return). I dunno, did they get him back as he was too difficult to hide with his ears in a mess?

Mine are chipped, but one chipped moved and when I asked the vet to scan him it didn't get picked up. (He's now got a second chip in.)

A dog came in to a rescue I help, he was scanned by dog warden, pound and the rescue- no chip. Something didn't sit right with the rescue, he was too well behaved, and in good condition not to be wanted. The rescue repeatedly scanned him, and eventually a chip was picked up.

Because of the problems with the chips, mine have just been tattooed, apparently it's legal proof of ownership whereas a chip isn't (w00t)

I'm actually thinking of learning how to do the tattoos and wanted to know people's opinions of them, and whether they're becoming more common.

Thanks for your replies. :)
