Last night whilst at work, there was this gorgeous scruffy dog that kept trying to come into our shop. He was dragging a lead, and being as it was bonfire night we assumed that a) he had run off in fright or that b) he had been tied outside the shop and had come undone. My supervisor tied him outside, and kept coming out and checking on him. Eventually, after an hour and a half, we decided that he must of run off and it was best to phone our local animal shelter. The lady who runs it said that she was too full to take him. I said being as I lived just down the road, I'd take him for the night. This had taken a further half an hour. So phoned animal shelter and said that's what we'd do. I took dog home for 20mintues when work phoned to inform me that the owner had showed up. I walked this dog back up to work and met the owner. She said "What happened they were'nt letting me back in the shop at first (It closes at 8pm) till I said about my dog"

I told her how the dog had been running loose, so we tied him up then after an hour decided to do something as the dog was clearly distressed.

"Well, someone must of untied him. I left him tied. What a silly thing to do you could of put a notice up they weren't going to let me back in."

At this point I couldn't understand why she was so annoyed at that fact, as soon as she mentioned the dog she was let in to see the supervisor, and the fact that she had obviously been shopping for two hours leaving the dog outside. She then went on to say how worried she had been (for all of 2minutes), as the dog had been stolen before when she was in London!

I said I wasn't suprised someone had taken him if she left this dog unsupervised for two hours, the poor thing was freaked out by the fireworks (Well, he is more scared in the house(!)), What is someone meant to think when a dog has become loose and no one moves him for tat amount of time? I had to walk away at that point I was fuming. How could anyone treat a dog like that?

thats awful.i hope she expressed her thanks to you for taking him in and looking after him.what might have happened i dread to think :(

Next time i hope somebody really does steal him, and take a better care of the poor dog. I would never tie my dog and go shopping.

It's beyond belief that anyone  who cared about their dog would

leave him tied outside a shop, even for 10 seconds, never mind 2 hours AND especially round 5th Nov. AND especially after he had been stolen once already

She was very lucky that someone as caring as yourself was around at the right time. Well done

not sure were i should put this but have joined cos someone told me i could get some advice here. so please forgive if im in the wrong place and if i am can u dierect me to the right place

my puppy is not well. When i say puppy he is a 10 mth old labrador.

Normally he is really boisterous and wants to play all the time. He hasn`t eaten for the last two days and only had little bits of water. He`s even refused his favourite treats.

He looks quite sad and pitiful right now . He hasn`t been sick or anything he just seems really flat and no energy.

We tried his fave game , fetch bring leave and get a treat , but he`s not really interested. He tried a few times but it was like more to please us than because he wanted to.

He was ok on his walk but maybe not quite so eager, not pulling and tugging as much as he normally does. Thought maybe it was the fireworks upsetting him but they`ve been going off round here for ages and he`s never been bothered by them, he`s never shown any concern for them except maybe barking a few times cos he wants to " get at em " but he`s not even doing that now and theres loads going off right now.

Any ideas please, i love my puppy so much.

Thinking maybe i should take him to the vets tomorrow but theres nothing specific if you know what i mean.

Its more that I know somethings wrong but not sure. Bless him, wish puppies could tell us where it hurts. :(

I think you should DEFINITELY Take him to the Vet!!! It is not normal for a dog, especially a Labrador, not to have eaten for TWO DAYS!!! (w00t)
