Milly and Poppy have come into season at the same time, do members still take them out but on their leads or let them run free. I let them off this morning but there was no one around. Poppy seems a bit tired.

Good planning, 3 weeks of chaos instead of 6 weeks :D

Cannot offer any advice myself but I believe that some bitches do become very subdued when in season.

Have fun :- :D

If they were mine, they would be on leads and locked in the house. It's not unheard of for bitches to run off looking to mate when their hormones are doing the thinking. Remember too that dogs can climb and dig to get to their goal, so don't leave them unattended in the garden for a moment! :luck:

Definitely agree with TTT

I live in the depths of the countryside but I still wouldn't let my girls out on my own land unaccompanied whilst they're in season.

It's 21 short days compared to months of upset and grief if one of your girls get caught

I've just been through this with Scout for the first time. She was kept firmly on a lead when out walking, and was supervised at all times in the garden. Every un-cut dog in the district seemed to be loitering with intent outside the gate, which upset Spooky who isn't too keen on them! I wasn't taking any chances! It amazed me how many people don't seem to care that their dogs are just roaming about on their own. Even though we live in the depths of North Devon, traffic is not unheard of here!

Anyway, we got through it ok. Like Poppy, Scout also seemed a bit tired, but she's now back to bouncing around like her old self (w00t)

Good luck with your girls, 21 days does seem to take a while to go by!

Gracie had her first proper season last Feb and I did take her for walks but never off lead. She also walked from the house to the car so her scent must have been all over the front drive but we didn't have any unwanted dogs hanging around. Similarly. when we were out walking, apart from mild interest from one intact male, there were no problems and Gracie made it abundantly clear to this dog, that she was not interested. I have to say we've had more problems with other males trying to hump Milo!

it is surprising how persistant entire dogs can be. When I was working in a GSD kennel, when one particular bitch came in season, a small black terrier would camp at the top of the drive for the middle week of her season, we nicknamed him "Ever Hopeful" I used to give him water and biscuits to keep his strength up.

I have never risked taking mine out in season, you just never know what might happen.
