My friends 6 month Vizla pup may have Hip dysplasia but also may have had a pranger we're hoping for the latter.

Anyway what I wanted to ask is is there anything that they can do for him in the mean time. Hes on rest for 2 weeks at the moment then goes back to the vet to see if its better or if he needs an xray to see if i is indeed Hip Dysplasia

Try giving him glucosamine and chondroitin suplements as these can help maintain joints. Also keep free running to a minimum as this can damage the joints the further. My friend has a lab with elbow displaysia and her dog is kept at an absolute minimum weight so there is less pressure on the joints, and is given these supplements every day. Considering the vet initially suggested the dog would have to be PTS at 6 months old and the dog is now 4 1/2 I think she is doing amazingly well.

Thanks for your reply, i'll let her know, should she give him any special form of glucosamine or is any type ok and what dosage

My friend just buys it from the supermarket although I do know that it isnt as strong as from some health food shops (just look at the packet and it will tell you). As for the dose, she has a lab and gives it 2-3 tablets a day (depending on the strength). Sorry I can't be more specific, but I havent spoken to her in a few weeks and so can't remember.

I do know that Glucosamine can be bought on its own or with Chondroitin (which is more expensive but better).
