Hi

I just wondered if anyone knows of any insurance companies that will take on an animal over 10yrs old. I just got my new insurance policys in for three of my cats they are insured with Scottish Pet Insurance it used to be £94.96 each per year :- "

My Persian X (moggy) is 10 years and two months his has went up to £239.93 and my other two a Ragdoll and a Norwegian Forest cat has went up to £294.59 per year basically has went up by £200 each the latter two are aged nearly 7 and nearly 9 yrs old. I have never ever claimed on it either! The excess has also went up and the cover of £5,000 per and each illness to 2,000 per and each illness. I called Scottish Pet Insurance yesterday to see what was going on and they told me that they have changed their underwriters and I am not the only one to phone up to say I will not be renewing my policy

I am now in a dilemma as I know it will be difficult to get the 10 yr old insured.

Try http://www.eandl.co.uk I have just put my 11 year old dog with them. Never claimed off them so I don't know what they are like in that respect. My dog cost 145 pounds for the year. He had been insured all his life with DBI but when he reached 10 their quote was ridiculous!

I have been on the phone for the last three hours and found the RSPCA to be good as there is only a one off £50 excess and vet fees paid up to £6,000 each and every illness. They are charging £97.39 for the 7yr old, £94.37 for the 9yr old and £88.92 for the 10 yr old. You get a discount for more than one animal and there is no problem with the age thing. You can pay it annually or split it up monthly. I prefer annually and that is it done without all these direct debits. I have enough debits as it is to confuse me :- " They said it would only be around £106 annually for the dog if I wanted her insured with them. 20% goes back to the RSPCA as well.

Marks and Spencer's seem good as well as you can choose the excess from 0 excess to £50 to £75 or £100 though it is a yearly excess . Marks and Spencer's pay up to £7,000 every year for each and every illness. They don't have an age limit either though a lot of people choose to pay the 15% of the overall cost of the treatment she said if they are over 8 yrs old but I said I didn't like the sound of that option, so she went away and found out the excess options for the 10 yr old and called me back with them. The prices seem good not a lot of difference from the RSPCA just the yearly excess from the one off excess and the fact that the RSPCA pay £6,000 then when it is used up that is it and M&S pay £7,000 every year if need be but you will have to repay the excess every year! They let you pay by cheque or debit card as well as annually if you don't want the direct debit way of paying.

So I need to think now whether I should go with Marks and Spencers or RSPCA.

Has anyone had any experience with either of them?

Got it wrong you do have to pay the £50 excess with RSPCA every year until the £6,000 runs out for each condition so I suppose you are getting a fresh £7,000 every year with M&S and you don't have to pay an excess if you don't want too!

My mind is frazzled with it all! Just need to choose one now

M&S is £7000 per year total - not for each illness per year - but it reinstates that £7000 every year.

They did just do a huge premium hike, but in spite of that I am staying with them. They have been great at paying out in a timely manner and with the 0 excess option that's even better, and their senior policy is good too, though it sounds like RSPCA is good as well in that respect.

If you're talking about oldies the chances that you'll run into more than 6000 total per illness is probably low, but then again cats live a lot longer...

Definitely I've had positive experiences so far with M&S.

Give E and L the widest berth possible (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

Why not put the money you will save into a special account =£300.00 each year , ? get one with a decent rate of interest

Hopefully your cats will be 100% healthy :luck: for years
