Which pet insurance companies have people had positive experiences with?

Should you insure your dog or simply save for that "rainy day"?

Direct Line have provided a very fast and satisfactory service with our two black siamese cats so I'll be going wih them with the new puppy.

Insurance is a must unless you're independently wealthy.

Ive just been scanning the usual sites and found Argos very good , India is 11.64 for premium . 6,000 and no time limit , all the others were £19.00 plus £120. excess , this is just £50.00 excess too

M&S Insurance have really hiked their rates up compared to a few months ago - in July I took out a policy with no excees for our 4 month old whippet - it cost a very reasonable £10.60 per month. I am now being quoted £20.50 for the same cover (was just checking as someone else said M&S were not cheap anymore).

They must have realised that Whippets are a big liability!!

Well I just had my renewals through and they are only £12 & £13 each, Dad has Louis' and it is £17....???

So after a few phonecalls its apparently that mine are down as unspecified breed Whippet instead of pedigree whippet.. so looks like I have got away with it and they agreed to keep them registered as that as it is their mistake. Dad isn't too happy though!!

I just went on the argos website to do a quote for Molly. I put in all the details but I couldn't be bothered to find her microchip number so I just clicked 'no' so I could get an idea on the quote, which came out at £11.03. Then I decided not to be so lazy and found the chip number and entered it, thinking it would reduce the premium, but it INCREASED it to £12.50 (w00t) Am I the only one who thinks this doesn't make sense??? I would have thought it would decrease or at least stay the same.

Think I will ring up to get a quote and see how much it is then.

I HAVE BEEN WITH DIRECT LINE FOR SOME OF MY PETS FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS.I WAS PAID OUT FOR A PEDIGREE CAT 400 POUNDS FOR ITS ROAD DEATH WITHIN TEN DAYS. MY WHIPPET TWINKLE HAD TWO STITCH UP JOBS BOTH ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON, PAID STRAIGHT AWAY, MARVELOUS BUT, LAST YEAR ON OCT 6TH WE LOST TWINKLE, NEVER FOUND, NOT INSURED AT THAT TIME AND ON THE SAME FRIDAY ONE OF OUR CATS GOT RUN OVER, OUR BEAUTIFUL MADELEINE. DIRECT LINE DID AGREE TO PAY BUT IT TOOK LOTS OF PHONE CALLS ON MY PART TO GET THE CHEQUE. IT WAS DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS WHEN THE CHEQUE CAME, THAT ALTERED MY OPINION OF THEM. FAREPAK HAD JUST GONE BROKE AND I WAS WORRIED .

PET PLAN ARE KNOWN TO BE EXCELLENT BUT EXPENSIVE.

We claimed off M&S at the end of last year. We had swapped Vet's mid-treatment so it meant two claim forms, M&S were excellent, they even received the two forms separately and put them together themselves (wonders never cease! :lol: ). They paid out promptly too. Now we just have to wait and see our quote for next year.... :sweating:

we just got our little whippet yesterday and have insurance with direct line (they do our cars) they were great on the phone, just waiting for the paper work to come in the post

i am not sure wether to change next year as ours seems more expensive than some of yours??

we are with petplan and my 2yr old lurcher is £13-something and our whippet will be £20.50.................. :unsure:

i just trust the name though

£20.50..........thats more than i will pay.........£13.09 and that covers everything apart from advertising if she gets lost........they also gave me £20.00 towards her next jabs

I have been with M&S for a year paying £10 for excellent cover, after no claims on this months renewal it is £19!! I have been on money saving expert and found reasonable cover for £9.45 with a specialist agricultural/equine insurer.

The main difference I discovered is that a lot of policies only pay for treatment for a year if you pet develops an ongoing condition.

Of course the other alternative is to stick £10 in a Whippy savings account monthly and keep it until (& if) needed. I daren't do this though as I would have £20 and Izzy would develop something needing expensive treatment!

I have just re-insured our Whippet Kiah - was with M&S but as others have found they have doubled their insurance price this year and have paid the penalty with me! They claimed AXA, their underwriters were to blame but I have taken new insurance out with the company below, who are also underwritten by AXA so me thinks M&S are telling porkies (filling there pockets by hoping people cant be bothered to switch?!)

I have just swapped mine from petplan to morethan- petplan increased by as much again.Wanted £15 per month for £4k and £60 excess,morethan gave quote £7.50 per month for £7k but £65 excess so gone along with this to see how it works out!Strange thing though, they offered 20% discount for second dog and it came out at £11 per month.This after stating both greyhound crosses,dont know whats going on there! For the moment I have left the second dog where he is at petplan in order to think about it for a while.I know its probably costing but insurance is a minefield dont you find?

Strangest thing of all is I dont have any insurance on me!!!! Hope I dont break a leg,if the vets feee is expensive they will have to put me down!!!

Grrrr just got my renewals and they went up 65% last year, and again almost doubled again this year! AND this year they have removed the No Excess option completely. Not a happy camper since it was me that recommended them to everyone.

On the other hand, have been round a few websites that offer similar cover (ie petplan etc) and to be honest they're around the same prices now, so I'm not going to get anything better for any less. I wouldn't have swapped Chelsea as she's got good Sr cover with them, and has an ongoing noise phobia, but would have considered changing the whippets, but really - there's nothing in it looking round. I did look at some of the others recommended, but while it would be paying less, the cover would be less as well (ie a set total per condition rather than that total being reinstated every year).

So we're sticking with it, but sadly.
