you could try Healthy Pets or PDSA petsurance (a commission aids the work of PDSA)

I'm sure you know it is difficult to compare insurance schemes as you can go by cost alone; you have to compare what cover you are getting. It's important to get life cover, so that if the dog develops a condition which needs on-going treatment cover for that treatment won't be denied after the year in which it first occurs.

I use Healthy Pets for Rifle who is 2, £10.98 a month for their Gold Cover (highest level). Have just had to claim recently and they paid promptly.

I was really annoyed because i was with Marks and Spencer (£105) per year, then we got a renewal (£240) per year

How the hell can they justify that, i have no clams on her at all

its not what you claim, its overall so all those numptys going to the vets for every tiny thing and believing everything they say that push the price up.

Was in the vets yesterday and a girl came in with a collie that had caught its tail in a car door, obviously being left for a op the receptionist got her to sign a disclaimer and informed the girl the dog was down for a kidney function blood test at the same time when the girl queried why? the rept said "due to age (3!!) it's best to check ohh and do you want us to do its teeth whilst it,s under?" and then we wonder why premiums go up so much!

i would have thought £20 amonth was resonable when you consider its hard to cough in a vets without it costing £££££££££

I know insurance can be really expensive but its well worth it in the long run. We have only had Murphy about 7 months and he's already had an operation due to a dog bite. That was £136 so £20 is cheap especially if he needs vetinary treatment later in life. I know I would have struggled to find that kind of money in one lump sum if I didn't have insurance.

We had to pay for Beanie when she got bit it cost £350 but she was insured

I will get both Tilly and Scrumpy insured

I was with Petplan a few years ago. When my premium went up yet again after after another year with them I switched companies. When I told Petplan I was switching to another insurance company they offered to give me a better deal, based on the fact I'd been with them a number of years and never claimed. I'd already made the switch and didn't take them up on their offer.

Sooo, they may be willing to improve their current offer, once the renewal is due. Try them and see. Nothing to lose.

just left M+S due to the getting rid of their nil xs and hiking premiums

changed to ARGOS Platinum, almost same cover for 3/4 of the price

can join on-line or ring number on back of catalogue

they will get it back over the years as your locked in with a pre - excisting problem the only way to beat them is to have a fully fit dog on the lowest prem and keep jumping companies

I have used Pet Plan for horse insurance - I once had a large vet bill and also a trailer stolen - and they paid up promptly - however they are expensive. But when I retired I spoke to them about the cost of my Horse Insurance and they did a lower monthy payment for me. I don't know if I will use them for my puppy though as they are expensive. I would like an insurance deal with a higher level excess claim amount for a lower cost as I am happy to pay for any reasonable vet bills myself. I don't know what insurance company does that kind of cover though
