This was in the evening times tonight...thought id post it on here
Animal lovers have been warned not to buy pets on the internet after a woman was targeted in a suspected scam.
Shona Brown, 34, responded to an online classified advert for chihuahua pups placed by a dealer listed under Glasgow. However, when she contacted the seller it emerged that he was in Africa.
The renfrewshire woman shunned the 500 pounds deal after a series of suspicious e-mails.
Pedigree Chihuahua pups cost 1000 pounds in the UK and Ms Brown though she had found a bargain.
Despite claiming to be British, the dealer spoke broken english and asked for payment to be send to a woman with an African name in Cameroon.
Ms Brown said she was particularly alarmed at the dealer's proposal to send the chihuahua pup on a six-hour flight to the UK.
Ms Brown said "I hope it is a scam, since Chihuahua pups are so tiny I doubt they could cope with the journey."
Animal welfare organisations are urging people to boycott pet sales on the internet.
Mike Flynn, of the SSPCA, said "We have heard about this kind of thing before. Even if it was not a scam the buyer also has legal obligations to ensure the safety of the animals being transported."
Phil Buckley, of the Kennel Club, said "People should buy from reputable breeders in the UK and steer clear of the internet"
