HI I have recently lost my labrador at age 11 yrs 11 months. I also have a little dog and 2 cats and am seriously considering getting a golden retriever, My main concern is that my little dog - yorkie/bichon cross - may not cope. Anyone got any experience of introducing a pup to a small dog? Thanks so much

Hello and welcome.

Others will add more on introducing the dogs. I haven't done it, but from what I've read, one thing that is important is to make sure that if the puppy is pestering your older dog, you can remove the puppy and make sure your yorkie/bichon gets peace.

Gender is another consideration - if you have two females together, they can sometimes fall out permanently which makes living together challenging.

Hi and welcome from me too. I am sorry to hear of your recent loss...
I have no experience of introducing a pup to an existing family, though I would say if you already have concerns re your little one(and you don't mention the cats and how they may react to a pup), then my only advice would be to maybe wait a bit... How old is your yorkie/bichon and was she really bonded with your lab?
