Hello all.I thought i would post this here as it seemed the best sub forum to do it in.I apologise in advance for this beiing a very very long winded intro and everything, please bear with me Lol

My dogs name is lola, she is a norfolk terrier <possibly crossed with a pomeranian but not sure..will explain as i go on> and she is coming up to 11 weeks old.Now i purchased her in an unorthodox method <i'm a first time dog owner by the way>,seeing an advert on gumtree which led me to believe she was a shih tzu crossed with a chihuahua and the asking price was reasonable. So accompanied by my aunt we went to see this dog, hoping to see where it lived..see its parents etc.So we arrived where we arranged to meet it dawned on me that we were buying this dog from travelling folk. The lady got out the car..held the little thing out like it was a dirty nappy and basically wanted to take the money and run.I should say we were originally after a shih-tzu and it was clear this little dog wasn't one and the woman kept on referring to "he" when i originally asked to see the feamle puppy they had in the advert.

So on a spur of the moment decision we decide to take the little thing because it was clear he wasnt being looked after and he wasn't going to live much longer from the state he was in,plus it was very clear he was well under the legal age for being sold <was probably no more than 4 weeks> but i just couldn't leave him behind so i paid the 280 and we left.

We took him to the vet immediately and no surprise he had a bad case of worms. That was treated and since then its been a case of taking each day as it comes.I should say that that we originally thought it was a "HE" until last tuesday when we went for the second immunisation injection when i was told <after it has been seen by 2 vets before then> that i had a little girl dog.Could only happen to me. Lol

Things are good, she is a kind friendly happy dog who loves to play and sleep.Having a few issues though including

*Not going to the toilet now that i am taking her out for walks. Is that normal?

*Taking her into the garden every few hours to go toilet and all she is interested in is eating everything off the floor

*Not responding to many of the methods i have employed regarding her biting.

*Sometimes getting so hyperactive she runs into walls or doors and bangs her head

Would i be right in thinking because she was taken from her mum at such a young age,i may encounter some problems as she has not gone through what all other puppies have done when with their mum and siblings.

Welcome to dogforum!

I am so pleased you took your lilttle girl on! God knows what would of happened to her so its so lovely to hear that you took despite being so young when she did.

If she was around 4 weeks old then she really has missed out on a lot. pups should not be taken away from their litter until 7 weeks minimum and this also gives them time to learn the proper doggy way of doing things and being with their brothers and sisters. Her mental and physical growth may be stunted slightly because of this dependent on what she was fed on etc.

Not going to the toilet on walks is quite common. It will come in time so dont worry too much about that.

Eating everything off the floor is also quite common so dont worry about that too much but do watch what she is picking up as it could potentially make her very poorly (trust me I know my dog has poisoned himself twice!!). She may have been starved when she was the breeder so it could also be survival instincts kicking in and trying to find whatever she can to eat. Very sad but this could be true!

Biting should be stopped as quickly as possible. The best thing to do is to stand up fold your arms and turn away from her. If it continues then walk away into the other room and ignore her. This will show her in time that the behaviour is not acceptable and it also gets her ignored. Dogs do not like being ignored!!! lol

Running round like a nut job is also pretty normal. My dog is 2 and he still gets over excited and bombs round like a complete loon! Puppies love to explore and if something sparks their interest and they find it particularly interesting then they go nuts!! Door stops was my dogs one when we first had him! Hilarious to watch! lol!

If the running around gets too much, scoop her up and pop her in her bed to calm down. If she gets out and starts again, repeat this process until she has calmed down. Try not to fuss her in anyway when this method is being done, but if she does become calm give her praise but in a quiet voice and calm stroke as you dont want her to get excited again.

And the last thing I will add is if you can get her into puppy classes as soon as she is able to go outside for walks. This is an excellent way for her to interact with other puppies and learn the ropes on puppy etiquette and your Trainer (if they are god at what they do) will guide you and also train you on how to train your puppy. It is an excellent way to train your puppy, socialize and bond with your baby girl!

Do some research on a trainer dont just pick anyone, and with her being a puppy make sure it is a class and not one on one training as she needs to interact with other puppies. Any trainer worth their salt will let you come watch their class before you commit to taking your puppy.

I wish you luck and let us know how you get on!
