there was con races scratch won by le bell and no surrender

a promising run by allison and colin,s young pup le bell and georges no surrender coming back from injury the scratch racing was over a 160yrds and the main racing over 150yrds with the front dogs running off scratch so this was a great run by sun princess to clock off minus18ft most enjoyable open once again a aycliffe

This was as John Gill has already said- a well run meeting with none of the ever present bad feeling that seem to blight our racing at the moment it was a pleasure to run at.

Thank you and well done to the IRG team who made the trip, ran the meeting and had no dogs of their own-hows that for dedication?

Thanks also to the club hosting.

:D I was there but not racing due to both of my dogs being injured but i wud definitly run them both at an irg open thorughly enjoyable to watch always a nice change to see 2ft per pound racing makes for some interesting races. two runs for every dog if wanted including scratch cons. by the way the up to 38lb then 44lb then no limit seems like a good idea to me with plenty competeing. all in all a good enjoyable day. carole (mickey whizz)

show threeeeeeeeeeee

half way up the track and only one dog in the frame-but I believe it was closer at the end

Buds race-this dog can run and has proved it over its last few races-hope to see it in Scotland-

No Limit-Winner

Challenger-another dog looking good-impressed me the first time I saw it at Coxlodge

Once more-Thank you to John Meades and Ron Hardy for their effort

Not many would travel from Nottingham to Aycliffe with no dogs of their own to run, at their own expense, providing raffle prizes, trophies and added prize money.

All this in the interest of the sport.

Hope it was appreciated by all.

certainly was steve a good days racing :D well done to all racers :D workers and especialy john and ron ;)

John and myself would have been but had to give the dog's a wee run before hand at the club after the Staffie incident. I do hope the IRG are back in that area again as we would like to run the dog's with them soon. It sound's like everyone had a great time (just the way it should be) and well done to all the winner's.

Susan and John :D

Once again a very positive responce from all racers with the IRG format, when are the other organisations going to look at the members feelings and change their

out of date handicap and format. One run after three hours is not on. Also why cant all organisers divide up the opens they run into three handicap systems, yd lb, 2ft ,and half yd ld, this would mean all dogs have a chance at a given open. as it stands now to many dogs over a certain weight end up as pets just because they cant compete at yd Ld. Well good luck to the IRG as it seems they are the only ones looking forward for the betterment in our ever decreasing sport.

Why not at the next weekend event try different formats and ask the members who are attending which they liked the best and also see the finished results how close these are . There are far less injuries at two foot per lb as all dogs are going over line together no late arrivals when others have stopped on lure

Ron and myself are grateful for all the good comments about the I.R.G. opens but it should be remembered that it is your good selves, the whippet racers that allow us the use of your clubs and grounds and your willingness to partake in the running of these events that make the opens what they are. With all the offers of help at all of the I.R.G. meetings that we attend, like yesterday, Ron and myself could have sat in the car all day. It is with the involvement of you that makes these meetings what they are and we will continue along with the same format,

Help others and others help.

I, like many others, think that if there were more variety in the handicap system there would be more dogs competing. Like Pete said whats the point in travelling 3 hours for 1 run, you can do that with your own lure and train your dog. (without the expense of petrol/diesel) The system as it stands you can attend a meeting see what dogs/bitches are there and pick out 95% of the winners. Whippet racing has now become a very expensive sport with the cost of petrol/diesel etc. and with the clubs now shutting down unless you have a "top class open whippet" whats the point in running and knowing your dog/bitch has no chance of winning, especially yd/lb format. The whole system needs a rethink so all dogs, whether open class or "club" class can compete and win.
