Does anyone have experience of Irish Terriers or Irish Terrier x greyhound/whippet/any other lurcher/running dog?

Ta!

well my dog is half irish half lakeland terrier- she's confident yet got good dog manners, nice size too.

loves a good walk- but lurves curling up on sofa aswell :huggles:

ive heard they are most aggressive terriers but mines fine unless dogs are too forward with her- lie if they sniff her too much, then she'l just show some teeth, she had a sheltered upbringing with her past owners.

i thought she was solely lakie- but then saw pics of irish and she's the spitting image!

PICT0165.JPG- im trying to post a picture from my digi camera and it just wont! it will post from my mobile phone but not pics from digital camera- i think they are too big, but dont know how to resize them!! sorry..

We had an Irish terrier she died at the age of twelve :( .....She was a super bitch, lovely soft temperment.....although they are sometimes known as"the red devil" and fiery, she wasnt, but i suppose some of them can be,Ifirst saw them at crufts years ago,and fell in love with them, loved the shape of them too.....graceful & racy looking....bit like our whippets :) would loveanother one one day

Thanks for the replies!

I have a 12 year old IT dog, who is an amazing dog. he comes to work with me and he's also been on a gundog course (yes, he was the only terrier) and done agility. He can be very soft-mouthed when he is retrieving.... What I would love to do in the future is work one with a bird of prey. For now, though, it's filed under 'things to do when I win the lottery'

I was interetsed to hear about working ITs and IT crosses as I am involved with IT rescue. We don't get many in rescue, but when they come in, we really want experienced homes with people who understand that they are a real mix of headstrong and very driven and focussed on what they are doing (not necessarily what you want them to do!) but also generally crave human company and can be extremely sensitive and quite soppy.

I think they are fantastic dogs :luck:

If anyone out there is prepared for a grilling worthy of the Spanish Inquisition, they would be welcome to talk to me about re-homing (w00t)

have a look at the general dog discussion thread for today - message re Irish Terrier rescue

Hi Kane, we have a lurcher pup of unknown breeding & a few people have suggested she may be part Irish Terrier. What do you think? She is 9 months, 20", weighs 13kg.

She is so lovely - beautiful colour and lovely expression. The colour would be unusual for a whippie/beddie combo alone...

does she moult much, J.T? Is her fur wiry?

well thats why i asked about your lurcher cos my terrier looks quite similar and she is part irish, the hair is v similar!

She does moult a bit but all I need to do is brush her a couple of times a week. She is quite rough coated, as she's getting older it's going lighter & longer. It's not really wiry though. Underneath her hair is a darker red colour with almost blonde highlights on top.

I dont really mind what she is cos she's a lovely little pup, so affectionate

I think she is part Irish Terrier, from the picture and the descriptions.

ITs are 18" @ shoulder for bitches and 19" for dogs, although many are an inch or two bigger and Irish & Bedlingtons are the only longer-backed, leggy terriers that arch slightly over the loins.

She looks very like the IT x whippets I've seen - but then again I've only seen 2!!!

She is lovely whatever she is
