Hi,

The Control of Dogs Order 1992 requires that a dog that is out in public should wear

"a collar with the name and address of the owner inscribed on the collar or on a plate or badge attached to it".

Is it OK to use a barrel type of tag that contains the information written on a piece of paper inside it?

For the answer to be "yes", writing would have to count as "inscription"; being kept in a barrel that is attached to the collar would have to count as "attachment"; and the piece of paper would have to count as a "plate" or "badge".

I would be grateful for advice from anyone who knows for sure what the answer is!

Many thanks in advance.

John

Our dog warden told me that he did not care in what format the dog id was as long as he could reunite the dog with its owner.

I would check with yours though.

I used a barrel type once but it unscrewed by itself and lost the bit of paper :(
