Captain is a rescue dog who I presume is some kind of whippet cross, he's 20 inches to the shoulder and is the same size but a larger frame than my other whippet. The more I see though of fawn saluki crosses on the rescue sights the more I look at Captain and wonder - at times he is so awkward and at others appears so regal. He attracts more attention than my pedigreee and we've been asked if they're related. Not bad for essentially a mongrel. I love him whatever, just wondered as to what his make-up might consist of. We did toy with the idea of bully whippet but in retrospect he's not muscled enough. We'd love to hear what others think, especialy Saluki/cross owners.

My avatar is of a painting I did of a saluki x greyhound. She was same colour and looked very like Captain but maybe just a bit taller -due to the g/hound I suppose. He's a handsome chap

Captain' s long toes look like saluki feet to me. Often, saluki crosses have a different running style to other running dogs- they hold their heads higher and more level.

dunno what he is but i do know hes one handsome dude!

It's hard to judge from just one picture, but he does have a bit of a saluki look about him. Very handsome whatever he is

Thanks everyone, it was very difficut to pick one picture to sum him up as I have hundreds and he looks different in all of them, very few show a 'true' likeness, he's such a charachter his expression changes ALL the time. He's my darling though and I don't care where he came from, I'm just glad he's with me now. But I am curious as to the mix that makes him as special as he is. He's such a sweetie- he caught a vole tonight, 3 times before letting it run away unharmed.Little monkey  I've also got a lovely pic of him nose to nose with a chaffinch - (w00t) it also remained unharmed!

I would put on other pics ( I've got lots on others forums) but the space available here is rather restrictive and I can only attach one reduced pic per post.

Would love to hear others views on Captain's parentage.
