We run Sid every day on a very large field, he chases his kong back and forwards and would go on for ever I think. But after he has had a good run he gets the squits, his poo is OK at all other times, it seems to be just after exercise, does anybody else experience this, I was thinking I might be running him too much but he does love it so. :))

It's probably an increase in metabolism, like in people!? Just guessing here! We have a similar thing - not related to exercise though. Tiny's poo starts off normal in the morning but by the evening is distinctly squitty! :x

Sounds normal, mine do the same, especially after a hunting expedition!!!

I suppose it depends how bad and for how long before his poo gets firm again. Maybe you are overdoing it a bit with his exercise? How old is he?

He is 20 months old - loves chasing his kong and lets me know when he has had enough. He just does one runny poo :x after exercising, then the next one is back to normal.

I was thinking a similar thing the other day. Whenever Milo goes out for a walk/run and goes its almost always runny and gross :x (lovely to pick up!) but other times when he goes in the garden its different altogether, a normal poo!!

I thought maybe it was something to do with excitement of being out and other dogs and all the smells etc ??? Strange.

Annie never gets this problem when we go out on a run..... sometimes she doesn't have a poo at all when we go out but Alf our JRT gets the squits almost every time . "Oh dear Alf " :x is muttered at least 3 times on our usual 1 hour walk.

I'm really glad you have brought this subject up as I did worry that something was wrong with him, but reading the feedback you've had on this topic, seems like a common problem and seems that it is not any thing to worry too much about. I put it down to him just being a bit excited when he's out.

:x Unfortunately it also makes poop scooping a very hard task and nearly impossible.

my Devon whippet was recently at the vet cos his foot was hot and swollen and he had a really upset tummy :x

the vet couldn't find any holes aound his pads but it was obviously an infection and Devon was treated appropriately

however, the vet did mention how sensitive whippets are, out of all the dogs he sees its always the whippets who get upset tummies with other conditions, and how some whippets get runny tums just going for a good run

so I guess the answer is yes, it sounds normal

It sounds like the excitement, and also the activity, which will increase metabolism rate. Best thing for constipation is bit of exercise. Although, I have to say my dogs do not have this problem and their stomachs seem to be made out of cast iron; when little they try to gobble up anything they can and never so made them sick. My Genevieve tries to pic up cigarette butts :x , and once or twice managed to swallow it before i got the chance to take it away.
