Ive posted about this before so bear with me, thing is my bitch is forever flapping her head and scratching her ears, ive had her to the vet and he gave me some ointment, did no good, i keep em clean and there is no odour, she will sit twixt my thighs forever letting me scratch her ears and shes a fanatic on rubbing her head on my legs.

thanks

Its not just grass seeds is it? My bitch does exactly the same as what your describing, mainly after a good run in the fields, but for a while after too.

To stop her doing it I basically have to get my fella to pin her down while I, very carefully, remove them with tweezers  then after that she's happy as larry - until I pin her down again to wipe more grass seeds out of her eyes

If you don't run her in any fields with long grass in, I haven't a clue what could be wrong with her

Deffo not gras seed according to the vet, some months ago i had her to the vet with the problem, one ear clean as a whistle according to him, the other had rubbish down it and mites, so he gave me some ointment which i applied according to what it said on the tube, but found it burned her ears, so i stopped it, also he gave me some anti biotics which made her extremely poorly, thing is she seems to enjoy rubbing her head against me with such vigour she nearly bowls me over, one thing the vet did pass comment on was that her head seemed rather hot, maybe its time i went back, but im sure someones dog had the same symptons as mine and got some powder i think from dorwest that did the trick

thanks, keith

Keith, if I remember rightly the powder was called Thornit.

A few years ago Beau got mites but they were that far down the ear canal it could only be treated with drops.

If she will let you look down the ear there is usually a brownish discharge associated with mites.

Hi Keith,we have a Mon Poodle who has exactly the same symptons as your Jill? is it? There is no smell and no discharge but his head is also "hot" especially around the base of the ears,we use drops called Surolan, they work a real treat.

Good luck,I believe the Thornit from Dorwest is excellent too

No,its a MON Poodle,it's a new type of dog that you only have on Mondays!!  Anyway.....Surolan is a liquid,it is available from your vet and is'nt very expensive at all,but is effective!! It's for Ear and skin treatment and is effective against bacterial, fungal and ear mite infections as well as being an anti-inflammatory and having a cleansing effect on the ears.I would say it is definitely worth a try.

We Oxonians keep it a closely guarded secret. (w00t) :b Actually I could do without dodging the doggers and drug dealers on my twilight strolls.

A search of the current list published by my illustrious former employer :nuke: Oxford University Press :nuke: threw up over 200 titles on the subject of sex, but as yet no Dictionary; I'll have to drop a few hints next time I bump into someone from Dictionaries. Must say I mostly had murder in mind when I worked there. :- "

Colin Dexter judged the village dog show last year; oddly no one was murdered during the proceedings.

Sorry - nothing to add on itchy ears other than I hope they get better :b :luck:
