Found this interesting - I think they do overcharge us. Funnily enough, the vet's representative on the prog. Jill Nute, has a practice just up the road here with her husband. Have never seen her there though. I won't use them again and I've met people in the waiting room unhappy with their practice. I had a cat some years ago who had chronic regurgitation and kept fitting etc. it had been going on for quite some time when he died one night after a really bad fit - but we had already spent £400 + on tests, x-rays, overnight stays etc. which all proved inconclusive. Sometimes, I think, what would be the point of knowing he had cancer etc. - they probably couldn't have been able to do anything about it anyway! Vets seem to be as clueless as we are about what could be the problem and will charge you the earth while they poke around eliminating things and checking it's not this or that.

What does everyone else think about vets?

I watched this programme and was disgusted at the Asian vet who deliberately left bandages on far too long and the poor cats and dogs ended up having to get their legs amputated to make him more money! I found it sickening that he only got struck off for 14months

I suppose just like Plumbers, electricians, joiners etc! There will be vets that rip us off but also there will also be vets that don't and do there job for the good of the animals. Maybe this will be a wake up call for the vets that do rip us off :-

I've recorded it but not watched it yet, sounds interesting.

My vets are great, I've been with them for years & have no desire to change. When my old cat developed a small lump on his jaw they firstly treated it with AB's but when it became obvious that the lump was growing at a rapid rate :( the vet said they could do some tests/biopsies etc and if it was cancer they could take part of the jawbone away. the vet then said that all that would cost a lot of money & if it was his cat he wouldn't put him through all that for a possible extra few months, I agreed with him & poor Baggins was pts :'(

They could have made a lot of money out of me but didn't for the sake of the cat.

When Scrumpy cut her leg a month ago she was stapled up at the emergency vet but I then had to take her to my vet for a checkup & then again a week later for the staples to be removed. That was 2 appointments with them but they didn't charge me for either as I was only in a few minutes each time.

In fact the only thing I don't like about them is that they are on a very busy road & Scrumpy is scared of traffic so I have to carry her in as she won't walk across the carpark. :(

Well I wouldn't like to question on all prices charged by vets. However, quite recently Beau was put on Incurin for incontinence. The first month I was charged just over £12 for a box of 30. When I picked up his second box it was nearly £15 for the same 30 tablets. I'm just wondering whether it would be cheaper to get a prescription. Anybody know the best place to get these?

First of all you would have to get a prescription from your vet , and there is a charge for this . You would only be allowed to have 3 months worths of prescriptions and then your Vet will need to see your dog again, mainly to see if it really does need the drugs, and if so does it need a lower/higher dose .

There will always be `wronguns of every profession im afraid ,

Personnlaly I think the Vet should have been struck off for life . who in their right mind would knowingly take an animal to him
