When I got to Crufts yesterday morning (I'd gone to watch friends in a Utility breed), we went thru Hall 5 and got talking to a woman on the Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) stand, and I must admit I do try to support greyhound rescue whenever I can.
They had a beautiful greyhound called Heather on the stand, poor thing had had her ears cut off when her owner decided he no longer wanted her and she had been abandoned. Very luckily for Heather, she survived despite bleeding profusely and she must have been in such agony, the long and the short of this is she was taken into Rescue and is now in a lovely home.
I always make a beeline for the stand whenever I go to Crufts and this year I decided to sponsor a greyhound, don't know why I've never got round to filling in the forms before :b it's only £12 a year. I hadn't realised when filling in the paperwork that you had a choice of about 12 specific greyhounds to "tick" against, I know the money just goes into the pot and hadn't realised I could make a choice!
Well, having cuddled Heather and sniffling over her earlier, it had to be her didn't it!
I know it's only a very small thing I've done and the list of things greyhound rescue groups need and do, is endless, but it's a start. And I feel pleased to have finally got it done.
Well done to everyone who works in rescue, for whatever breed of dog, or whatever animal at all.
