JACK

**UPDATED: 30th SEPTEMBER 2012**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK.

Jack is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound lad who is now looking for a loving home to call his own. Despite running over 100 races for his previous owner/trainer, Jack soon became surplus to requirement and was going to be put to sleep unless Kerry Greyhounds UK took him in. This dear boy could do with some love and care now that the racing world is finished with him.

Jack is a big beautiful black and white boy. His coat is rather dull at the moment, but with regular brushing and a good diet, it won’t be long before Jack has a gorgeous sparkle to match his lovely personality.

~ Personality ~

Jack is a really lovely lad who has definitely made the most of what’s been given to him, and is quite happy in himself. He is easy-going and laid back, taking things in his stride. He really enjoys getting love and affection from people, though isn’t pushy or demanding about the amount of interaction he gets. In short, Jack is a really lovely boy who is happy with relatively little, and will be such a gorgeous addition to your household. Once he’s in a home environment and getting a steady supply of love, he’s going to be such an incredibly happy hound.

~ In the Home ~

Jack has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Jack is currently on our waiting list for a foster home and we hope to see him out of kennels as soon as possible.

~ Other Animals ~

Jack has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far, and enjoys his romp in the paddock. He is right now very interested in small dogs, and would chase them down if he was given the chance Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are actually dogs. As Jack’s racing life becomes a distant memory, he will gradually become more social and open to meeting small dogs without having the urge to chase them. Lots of positive interactions and socialisation will greatly help with this. Jack is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Like most greyhounds, Jack really is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Jack has never known the comforts of a duvet or sofa, and once he does we think the biggest problem might be getting him up for his walks!

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~

Jack is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Jack is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Jack, please visit either our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html for information and instructions on our homing & fostering procedures. If you have any further questions or problems, please feel free to email me (Tam) on tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.
