JAKE
**UPDATED: NOVEMBER 2012**
Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK.
This is Jake. He is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who, after running a total of 34 races for his previous owners, was deemed no good anymore and was going to be put to sleep if Kerry Greyhounds UK had not taken him in. Jake is now very much looking forward to a loving home to call his own.
Jake is a lovely white boy with big fawn splodges. His coat is rather dull right now but it will soon pick up once he gets more tlc and regular brushing sessions. Jake has a gorgeous, delicately featured face and surprisingly big ears!
~ Personality ~
Jake is showing himself to be a really lovely lad, adoring attention from people but not in your face about demanding more. He is used to making the most of what he gets, and so is very low maintenance and extremely easy to keep happy. All he needs is a soft bed, good food and lots of cuddles and he’s in 7th heaven. Jake is a very laid back boy who takes things in his stride.
~ In the Home ~
Jake has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
~ Other Animals ~
Jake has been very good with the other greyhounds and large breed dogs that he has met so far. He likes the company of other dogs and really loves going on walks with a few canine buddies. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Jake is a lazy boy at heart and is more than happy to snooze away between his daily walks. He does not need a huge amount of exercise and will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.
~ Where Am I? ~
Jake is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Jake is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering Jake, please visit either our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html for information and instructions on our homing & fostering procedures, as well as phone numbers to give us a call. If you have any further questions or problems, please feel free to email me (Tam) on tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!
~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~
Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page:[b/] http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.
If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I (Tam) can be contacted through the following email:
