Here is a photo of Jenny at 12 wks. She looks like butter wouldn't melt but she is a right little madam if she can't get her own way. Is this usual for a Whippet or is it just a puppy thing? It is quite strange that I can't remember how my other dogs were at her age. She is biting everything she can find, including us, she seems to get so focused on play that she hasn't any reservations about using her mouth on us. I don't want to get too heavy with her and I would be grateful if anyone reading this post can tell me how they coped. I am worried that I could have a problem with her if I don't check this behaviour while she is still young.

aww, she is just gorgeous

you could try a loud yelp when she starts biting, to show her that she is hurting you, or walk away from the play, she should soon enough get the idea that biting will get her nowhere. I must say can't offer a great deal more advice as Eskil was a really easy baby :b

Awww butter wouldn't melt...look at those eyes

re the biting, make sure the whole family and anyone who comes into contact with her treat her in the same calm manner, don't allow anyone to play ragging games or tease her with toys. Stop play, strokes and cuddles everytime she starts to bite, keep a collar on her in the day so there is something grabable to prevent her immediatley from being able to bite and consider a crate for time out/calm down time...I'm sure a little sweetheart like that'll soon get over it

Just be consistant!

Sounds like you have a fairly typical whippet pup there, and a very beautiful little girl  I agree with the advice given so far, it worked for Grace who was a horror at that age.

My Izzy is 14 weeks old today. She was the same but luckily I have another 6 whippets for her to bite

If her teeth ever came into contact with me, I just stopped playing immediately and said "uh, uh - no teeth" and then offered her a toy which she is allowed to bite/chew  Then I told her she's good :D She doesn't use her teeth on me anymore

She rags the other whippies incessantly, literally for hours  , and if one gets fed up they tell her to stop in their own way ........ so she moves onto the next one!!!

Sounds to me as though Jenny is a very normal whippie pup  ....... she'll gradually grow out of it so don't worry too much, just roll with it
