JERRY
Jerry is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound lad. He is an average sized boy with a soft shiny coat that is a lovely dark chocolate colour in the sun. Jerry worked very hard in his racing days and truly deserves his retirement home now. He retired from the racing world after he severed his achilles tendon, an injury that would make him too slow for the track. This injury is now fully healed and poses no further problems.
Jerry is a very placid, kind fellow who is well mannered and easy going. He loves being around people and will stand beside you all day long if you are offering chin scratches! He walks good on the lead, travels very well and gets on brilliantly with other greyhounds.
Though Jerry is in kennels at the moment, he has spent some time in a home environment before so we feel he should adjust quickly to being in a home again. Housetraining should not be too much trouble, and his previous owner described him as the 'perfect house guest, there is just something about Jerry that makes you love him'. Jerry has not yet been tested with smaller dogs but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. He has lived with a bossy border collie girl before and took all her grumping without complaint. He is not cat friendly.
Like most greyhounds, Jerry will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be very content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. He loves to roach on his back after his walks and we know he's going to relish being back in a home again.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also dont shed as much as other dog breeds such as retrievers or labradors, and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
Jerry is currently in kennels in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He will be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed prior to adoption and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This lovely boy deserves to get his forever sofa now.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Jerry, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our information pack and adoption questionnaire. Thanks!
~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~
Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England and operates through a network of volunteers. We can look after approximately 50 greyhounds at any one time, in both Ireland and the UK.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, de-flea'd and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA. We work hard to match the right hound to the right home, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
We can be contacted via PM or through any of the following:
