JERRY-JOE

Jerry-Joe is a 18mth old greyhound boy who was not fast enough for the racetrack. He is a little black boy with a very pretty face and is sure to be absolutely gorgeous once his coat gets some sheen to it.

Jerry-Joe is a quiet, but friendly little chap who is a pleasure to be around. He is a new boy to our kennels and we are sure his personality will come out in a few weeks time once he gets to know us. He loves being around people, though, and really enjoys a good fuss and cuddle.

Jerry-Joe is well behaved with our other greyhounds and enjoys stretching his legs offlead in our paddock. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

Jerry-Joe has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to settle and get used to the changes. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

**UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011**

Dear Jerry-Joe is still waiting for his forever home. He has improved in condition a lot since coming to us, and his coat is now beautifully shiny with most of his kennel coat now gone. Jerry-Joe has a beautiful face with a very long muzzle, and is, at 24” to the shoulder, a very small little lad.

Wee Jerry-Joe has now gotten to know the kennel staff and is such a sweetie pie. He will still be a bit shy with newcomers, but with a little bit of time and patience he soon comes out of his shell. Once you get this boys trust, he is sure to be a friend for life.

Jerry-Joe has been very well mannered with the other dogs he has met, including a smallie terrier. He has not been cat tested yet but this will be carried out shortly. We hope that such a stunning little chappie wont be waiting too long for his forever home, this boy is certain to blossom once in a loving, secure home environment.

**UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011 #2**

Jerry-Joe had his preliminary cat test this week and did very, very well. We feel that he may be suitable to live in a home with cats provided they aren’t overly skittish and are dog savvy.

Jerry-Joe will be tested more thoroughly before being deemed as definitely ‘cat friendly’ by going to a foster home with cats to see how he lives with them, but potential adopters are urged to apply for him now as the cat friendlies usually aren’t waiting very long!

Jerry-Joe is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Jerry-Joe, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
