JOEY
**UPDATED: JULY 2013**
Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.
Key Points: Absolutely perfect!! Excellent manners, housetrained, very responsive, willing to work with you, forms a very strong bond, dog savvy, very playful, suitable to live with cats, walks well on the lead, all round superstar.
Please meet the gorgeous Joey, and then form an orderly queue! Joey, so named because of his adorable habit of standing on his back legs and bouncing like a kangaroo, is an 8 month old broken coated lurcher boy. His mum was a greyhound x deerhound x saluki and his dad a purebred whippet. He is currently 22” to the shoulder.
Joey is just GORGEOUS, in every sense. He has the sweetest wee face, expressive big ears and has a beautiful silver grizzle coat. He’s sure to be an eye turner wherever he goes!
~ Personality ~
Generally: Excellent! Mannerly, gentle, playful, calm and responsive, eager to please, naturally laid back, well socialised, balanced, just wonderful.
Well gosh, what can we say except that Joey is AMAZING! Though just a puppy, he is very mannerly, trusting, super-duper affectionate and develops a strong bond with his people. He is lovable, genuine, sociable, attentive, obedient, gentle, playful and just a wee bit cheeky. Sounds perfect? Well we think he is!
Joey has been learning some tricks while in his foster home, and can now sit, lie down, stay and come on command. He is very responsive and loves to work with you and use his brain to get rewards. This boy is a true gem and can become literally anything his owners wish – laid back family pet, agility star, therapy dog. You name it and Joey can get there. Everyone who meets him falls in love instantly because of his wonderful character and smiley face.
~ In the Home ~
Generally: Fantastic manners for a puppy, housetrained, ok to be left for up to 4hrs, playful and likes having space to romp.
Joey has been in his foster home for about 3 weeks now and is just excellent. He shares his foster home with a cat and they get along just fine, though sometimes the cat kicks him off the bed at night! He is housetrained and generally brilliant in the home provided he has enough exercise and things to play with/chew on. He is used to being left with just kitty company for up to 4 hours and doesn’t make a peep. He’s a super playful little man who loves his toys, children and really loves other dogs. Joey will occasionally have a peek at the kitchen worktops if something tasty is left there, but he will back away when told. He can jump up if very excited but is generally extremely mannerly for a puppy and a gentle reminder is all that’s needed for him to check himself and calm down.
~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Loves all other dogs, very dog savvy and has excellent communication skills, good with cats.
Joey is just fantastic with other dogs. He is submissive around confident, assertive dogs and very playful and bouncy around other playful, like minded dogs. He is well socialised and dog savvy, understanding dog communication excellently and adapts accordingly. He is currently getting lots of excellent interactions and social playtimes with other dogs and loves every minute of it. Joey is also suitable to live with cats and is fine to let the cat be the boss in the situation.
~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, doesn’t pull, offlead has good recall when bonded though forgets himself at times when in play.
Joey walks like a gem on the lead, you’d forget he’s just an 8 month old pup. He doesn’t pull and absolutely loves meeting other people and dogs.
Sometimes when free-playing with other dogs, Joey forgets his recall training but he is just a puppy and can be distracted at times. This is just something to be mindful of and work on before letting him offlead in large open areas. Once he has bonded to you, Joey is generally brilliant when offlead and keeps track of where you are. Please note that Joey should never be let offlead in areas near public roads.
~ Where Can I Live? ~
Joey is extremely adaptable and well-rounded, meaning he would be suitable for almost anyone. He would love to live with another dog (or several!) as his canine skills are excellent and he adores their company. However he has also shown that he adapts perfectly well to being an only pet provided he is given enough exercise, mental stimulation when left and gets several chances to interact with other dogs during the week. He is a very easy chap to handle, is very gentle and can live happily with children over 8 years of age. He is so trusting and willing to please, we want a 5 star home for this beautiful lad, where he will be given a chance to reach his full potential.
~ Where Am I? ~
Joey is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, though you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect him. PLEASE NOTE that we only place dogs in cat homes in and around the Norfolk area as our behaviourist needs to be able to get to the home to provide guidance.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Joey is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in adopting Joey, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.
There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html.
Thank you.
