Having had my details put on the world wide web as the person for people to contact looking for Whippet puppies due to my connection with Midland Whippet I would just like to say that there have been very few enquiries for puppies but I have had a lot of phone calls from Breeders who have dog puppies they cant sell.

There appears to be an extrodinary amount of litters being born that are predominantly male and bitches are at a premium.

Please think carefully before breeding with your bitch at the moment as there does not appear to be the homes out there especially for the boys.

Just a thought really

And a VERY good thought too Jan.

Careful thought should ALWAYS go into planning any litter & adequate space insured & provided for any surplus pups, we all know for whatever reason its ALWAYS harder to home the boys & there is never any guarentee that you wont end up with a whole litter of boys.

Simple fact: If you cant afford to keep em, dont have the space to keep em? DONT BREED EM! :- "

 wish more people would put thought into why they are breeding

there are a lot of people wanting a pup NOW NOW NOW!!

as a result prices of an average pet quality pup have really increased recently, probably partly due to people trying to pass pups off as better than they are,and selling them on the back of other peoples years of hard work (how often do you hear "his grandsire was half brother to so and so" ) where as most dedicated breeders i know who put a lot of thought into complimentary bloodlines, favourable attributes that can be passed on and how generally to benifit the breed not their wallets have hardly increased their prices at all

might seem harsh, but i'm glad so many arent being bought right now. what with so many pups going back to the breeders, or worse, rescue, after christmas is over, its surely better that they stay with the breeders. after all, any sensible person looking for a pup right now would realise that the noise, rush etc of christmas is not a good environment to put a little'un through, and would wait the extra week or so.

as nina said, cant keep 'em, shouldnt breed 'em. just wish more people would look into it, but you'll always get those who see breeding as a money maker, with no thought to breeding GOOD lines (which in itself would increase the desirability of the offspring) prefering the services of 'me bruvers mates dog, as 'es only gonna charge us a score, innit', then these idiots wonder why people arent breaking down the door for the resulting litter

ultimately, in that situation it will always be the pups that suffer :(

 for letting people know about the puppy glut

does concern me that a lot of people only want bitches, probably won't be long before they will be mothers themselves, or am i just being an old cynic :(

 For pointing this out .......I think there are alot of people trying to make money out of their pedigree dogs (be it Whippets or any other pedigree breed ) .......I really agree with ..........

If you cant afford to keep em, dont have the space to keep em? DONT BREED EM!
.......
