Well I have just been looking through the old threads on this site to see if there is anything to lighten the feeling up a little. Is there nothing pleasant going on in Whippet Racing ?if not why do we bother training and feeding our PETS after all thats what they are !

steve

well i love racing my dogs win or lose, and yes there is lots going on thats pleasant, you just have to look at people new to the sport, when there dogs run well, or Gary Gorton when he runs his pups, his face is a picture,

Here's one!

A couple of weeks ago a new couple came to our club with a fawn bitch, they got her from a rescue centre not far from us & was told she was a pedigree whippet that had had a broken back leg. It was obvious from her build she definitely wasn't a ped, she timed in 8.94 so she was able to go into the handicap off that time, in she goes, passes the other dogs no probs & duly wins her heat, the smile on her owners face was a picture. This is what whippet racing's about - i just love seeing newcomers have their first win, far better than watching anyone get a title!!!!!

:p Vicky, I totally agree with you - newcomers and what a pleasure it is to see their faces when they win - to them its like winning a title. We were in the sport for 21 years before we took our first title - thought it was never going to happen - but hang in their and eventually luck shines on you - well most of the time  Happy days and some heart breaking ones when injury strikes. :p Joan

Should have seen us when our first bitch took her first adult straight race (Connors Lass ht. 25lb Cons. English Derby 2004). You'd have thought we'd have just won the moon !!!

I agree, this positive thread is what we want. I have a feeling we have turned the corner and the coming FED Champs are going to very enjoyable and the atmosphere at the forthcoming Devon Festival is always very good, Hope to see you all there.
