it's funny you should post this nicky,on our local news at 3.00pm a 70 yr old white haired man was asked in morrisons if he was over 21 when buying beer,he said i refuse to answer that silly question and left all his stuff at the checkout (w00t)

 I got charge a half fair by a bus driver when I was at home a while back. I'd like to think it was my youthful good looks but I think it was more to do with just being a 'little dwt' as they say ;) I had grey hair when I still qualifed though :(

LOLOL Nicky you are so funny :)) listen, don't knock it! thats a great compliment :))

I'm always asking people who are well over the age limit, most take it in good spirits but some of the yongsters get lippy about it, normally the under age ones.............some of the names ive been called

But you have to be careful now as its not only the shop that gets the fine,

whoever sells to under agers gets a pesonal fine as well :(

I got asked a couple of times earlier this year in Asda - at age of 26 :D I take it as a compliment

there is a young bloke that i work with that asks everyone for id. He did ask a pension for id so they showed him there bus pass. He refused it and said it was not the required form of id.

But yes it can be hard sometimes to tell and i have asked for id for people over 21. I can offered £1000 fine.

Yep I got asked for ID the other week too in the coop in Bakewell, I am 30 but I know that I only look about 20 so I don't mind. Trouble was, I didn't have any id on me so the girl asked John instead (w00t) and he definately looks his age! Luckily he had his driving licence so we got served. The couple behind us were absolutely wetting themselves laughing at the girl serving (who incidently didn't look old enough to actually be serving me!), I think she was more embarrassed than us

sorry to burst your bubble nicky! (w00t)

Man, 72, asked for proof of age to buy wine Sep 19 2007

By Matt Hurst Liverpool Echo

JOBSWORTH check-out staff asked a 72-year-old man if he was old enough to buy a bottle of wine.

Pensioner Tony Ralls was so amazed he had to prove he was over 21 that he asked to see the supermarket manager.

But when the Morrisons manager agreed with the staff member’s request Mr Ralls walked out of the West Kirby store in sheer astonishment.

Mr Ralls, who has been buying alcohol at the supermarket for two years, left a trolley full of shopping and took his custom to the Sainsbury’s down the road.

The grandfather of two said: “I was offended because it wasn’t to do with the fact that somebody thinks I might be nearer 21 than 73, but that somebody should ask such a ridiculous question as if it were sensible.

“It’s bureaucracy gone mad.

“By all means ask when in doubt like everybody else selling drink, but to ask somebody who is clearly an old age pensioner is absurd.”

Mr Ralls said he was half-way through unloading his trolley when he was asked to confirm he was over 21 as a couple of bottles of wine made their way down the belt.

But the retired insurance firm regional manager refused to do so and asked to see the manager.

Mr Ralls, of Flowermead Close, Meols, said: “He said will you confirm you’re over 21 and I felt like saying, ‘are you a fool? What do I look like?’

“The upshot was he said if I wouldn’t confirm my age, they couldn’t sell me any alcohol so I told him they could put the whole lot back on the shelf.”

Morrisons say it was acting with “the best of intentions” and hoped staff inquiries would be “taken in good humour.”

But Manchester City fan Mr Ralls said the whole affair was “nonsense” and advised the supermarket to ask those who appeared under 21 for identification, as is common elsewhere.

A spokesman for Morrisons said: “To limit any element of doubt, staff at the West Kirby store are required to ask anyone buying alcohol to confirm that they are over 21.

“This is done with the best of intentions and we would hope it is taken in good humour by those obviously over the age of 21, as we do not wish to cause offence and no disrespect is intended.”
