Hi all,

Harper is now getting quite big as you can see from the pictures below (16 weeks) and going out for longer on daily walks. She walks brilliantly on the lead until there is another dog coming our way or on the other side of the road. Then she bark and bark and bark - and I will be quite honest in saying I find it embarrassing and annoying. She has also started to bark at knocks on the door etc and started to lunge towards other dogs when on the lead (not in an aggressive manner, more an excited one).

Our other dog is generally silent all of the time so I have never had to deal with a barking dog before - any advice on how to stop this, especially on walks?? It's very disheartening to see people cross the street from my puppy when I'm trying to get her used to other people and other dogs...

Teach him the NO BAD DOG command, different from just saying no.

My dogs hate the no bad dog,

Training for this one usually gets a quick result because they think you do not like them anymore, but effective.

When your dog does something you don't want him to, say very sternly (but dont shout, smack scruff shake etc) NO BAD DOG, then walk away from him, do not play with him totally ignore him for aprox 5 mins (no longer) after this call him over ask him to do something that he has already learned then treat him and give him a fuss (good dog)

The dog will very soon sus out that bad dog means you do not like him, you do not love him you will not speak to him.you are bad.

Through time he can be given a treat if he instantly stops what he is doing after the bad dog command, he gets a treat for good behaviour.

My dogs ears instantly go down as soon as I say no bad dog, he does not like it at all.

Be careful when you use this, as using it for every misdemenour can have an adverse effects and make him think he is not loved, the simple no is used, bad dog added when a serious misdemenour has happened.

So when he susses it out he barks on the street Bad dog, don't speak for a couple of minutes, get him to sit etc treat him and fuss him for that good command.

Patience is the key.

Hope this helps
