KAYLA
Kayla is a 3 year old greyhound lady. She has a soft black coat that is in poor condition at the moment, but will improve with good food and a soft bed.
Kayla is a very quiet girl, calm and reserved with strangers but becomes more affectionate once she gets to know you. She has a quiet, almost sad air about her that gives the impression that shes had a harsh life so far. We feel that Kayla will blossom in to a loving sweetiepie once she settles in a home environment and experiences the joys of home comforts, and lots of tender loving care.
**UPDATE: July 2010**
Kayla is now in a foster home and is getting to experience home comforts for the first time in her life. She has come out of herself a lot over the past few months, and should come on in leaps and bounds now that she’s in foster care.
Kayla is a darling girl, very easy to handle and manage. She is kind and placid and is gentle about getting to know you. Give her time and she will bond very closely to her owner. She walks well on the lead and gets on very good with other dogs her size. A bit of caution may be needed when introducing her to smaller dogs, but her interest in them will decrease once she gets used to seeing them – so far she has only ever seen greyhound shaped dogs!
Kayla’s profile will be updated once she has settled in to her foster home, allowing her real personality to come out and shine.
Like most greyhounds, Kayla will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE: August 2010**
Kayla has settled brilliantly in to her foster home now, and as you can see in the picture below she has definitely made herself at home! She has come out of herself more and is now very sociable and loving. She is no longer withdrawn or reserved upon meeting strangers, but is still calm, quiet and mannerly.
Kayla has gotten lots of practice in meeting other dogs, and is very good with all dogs – big and small. She walks perfectly on the lead and is polite when meeting other dogs. She is not cat friendly, however.
We feel that Kayla would do very well in a home with children aged 5 and over as she is so calm and even tempered and loves her cuddles. Alternatively, she would also be very well suited to an older couple who would dote on her as she does not need huge amounts of exercise and loves to be loved. She is fully housetrained, non-destructive in the home, and is really going to make a fantastic companion.
Darling Kayla is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
