102.05 CHANGE TO THE DEFINITION OF CLASSES FOR THE PEDIGREE CHAMPION, VETERAN AND BREEDER STAKES

Tuesday, 31 May, 2005

At its meeting on 31 st May 2005, the General Committee of the Kennel Club agreed to a request enabling Pedigree Masterfoods to add the following wording to the definition of the above stakes classes:

"Pedigree Stakes competitions are open for entry to all exhibitors and handlers, excluding Mars employees and their families and those exhibitors and handlers who have chosen to have an exclusive feeding or advertising arrangement with any other pet food manufacturer."

In making this decision, the General Committee directed that Pedigree Masterfoods must obtain the agreement of each show society scheduling these classes and that the earliest occasion this alteration may take effect would be at the Three Counties Agricultural Society show to be held on 13 th-16 th June 2005.

The issue of sponsorship and its effects on Kennel Club licensed events is currently under review.

Basically if you don't feed pedigree or if you have an exclusive agreement with another pet food manufacturer you cant enter anymore!!!

(w00t) Bloody hell! This makes me despair :(

Right , mind you it must be a right bummer if the overall winner feeds Purina or whatever

Just say you feed Pedigree, who is to know :- " ? Unless of course you have been advertising another food before.

MIne have a mixture of Pro Plan and Austrailian Formula, who's to know that unless they take stool samples!!! :x

 Oh my goodness, it's coming to something when you're banned from entering something just because you feed something different. Whatever happened to freedom of choice and so on.

I know, unbelievable!

I know you could lie but that really is not the point  So now unless you feed Pedigree you will not be allowed into the Chamion Stakes, Pedigree shouldn't be allowed to sponsor them if they can't accept that sometimes (or quite a lot now!) the dog won't have been fed their food.

Personally I wouldn't want my dog associated with any complete food, and wouldn't lie just so I could enter the stakes (If I had a champion :b ).

I thought the worse thing was when Butchers Tripe had to give up their stands at Crufts and other Ch shows because Pedigree complained so long and loud to the KC that they (Butchers) were diminishing their (Pedigree) sales and that if they were not stopped Pedigree would withdraw their sponsorship.

Guess what you do not see at ch shows any more???

How many other manufacturers are gonna jump on the bandwagon? Also why are employees families excluded? I mean if you just package or distribute for Mars /Pedigree, then what does that really matter. At the end of the day a dog is judged the usual way!!!! I have a relative (cousins husband) who works at Pedigree, does this exclude me?

This seems just as bizarre as the people who make up EU regulations (w00t)

this disgusts me.its pedigree petfoods trying to monopolise the show scene.they should be reported to the monopolies comission.jo is right, they should accept that sometimes folk will win whose dogs arent fed on their stuff.if i entered and won id declare that i dont use their dog food but had to say i did in order to enter.im sure the press would have a field day with that. :- " (i always thought we lived in a democracy where we had freedom of choice, obviously i got that wrong)

As Pedigree sponsor many Championship shows in other ways (ie Puppy class wins, CC winners etc) does this mean that soon you won't be able to enter any show sponsored by them (which rules out most, if not all of the general ch shows) unless you feed their product?

"who have chosen to have an exclusive feeding or advertising arrangement with any other pet food manufacturer"

Doesn't say you necessarily have to feed their product does it?

I wonder if this will also mean that if you dont feed Purina, you wont be able to enter the puppy stakes :(

One point i think is ok, that emplyees of pedigree shouldnt enter. :)

Next ,you wont be able to enter PET PLAN Junior stakes unless you insure with them . ( which Im not )

Don't even joke about that!!!!

 I always thought competition was the name of the game or is that the stakes classes recently have been won by dogs fed on other makes of food and Pedigree perhaps are now being played at their own game as they (if I remember correctly) started this whole thing of taking full page ads in the dog papers to advertise dogs fed on their products.

Have to own up and say I do use Pedigree because my dogs do well on it, but I do get infuriated when any firm starts spitting their dummy out of the pram because they are apparently being beaten at their own game.

:- " It is probably down to the fact that they are no longer an independent but have been swallowed up into the great Mars corporation and at the top who are they predominantly controlled by - THE YANKS - say no more really.
