Is it possible to have a neutered male living with an intact female? Would he not be interested when she was in season, or would it still drive him crazy? Thanks.

We have a neighbour with quiet a few girls, some neutered and some entire, there is one neutered male too. The neutered male will mate and tie with the entire females if he gets the chance. There are never any pregnancies, of course

I was about to say the same as Excuseme. I wish vets would tell owners this.
In answer to the question - yes it is possible, but quite stressful if you have other household members who can't be trusted to shut doors. One or both dogs may howl. A lot. They MUST be kept apart all through the female's season. A male dog can be badly injured or even killed if the female bolts during the tie.
Or you can send the male away to kennels for the duration of the bitch's season. If so, be aware that some bitches will stand to be mated for up to 4 weeks after the start of the season. You may already know this, but it might help someone else who is considering the same issue.

But neutering a girl at least eliminates the pyometra risk.Darn. I want my next dog to be a female, but it’s a big op to neuter a girl.... plus there’s still the first season to get through anyway. Prob not gonna work

I've had a neutered dog living with 3 intact females. I never had a problem,like I said at the top of the post,it was the bitches hassling him. They'd be dancing round him and backing up to him,he used to jump up and sit with me.
