I have two dogs, Max 13 months and Rose, 7 months; both medium sized crossbreeds. We have only had them a month. They are rescue dogs and I believe Rose to be part collie and max to be part terrier. Rose has just been spayed, 6 days ago. Max is totally confused and doesn't understand why they can't play and run around (I keep having to tell them no play). Rose thinks she can run around and play. Really, they are both confused. Trying to keep them calm is a nightmare. If I try and take Max out for a walk Rose goes nuts and I'm scared she will hurt herself. I bought crates but Rose keeps trying to get in Max's. He doesn't seem to care about the crates. I have made them nice and cozy and have not forced them into the crates - enticed with treats etc... and left door open initially. I am trying to create a nice, cozy and safe place for them. They both lay down and I shut the gate for a few mins but Rose scratched at it.

I really am lost at how to keep them happy and not bored at the moment and to keep Rose safe. They are starting to really misbehave and Rose has started to growl at Max. He has at her too a couple of times.

Does anyone have any tips please?

Thanks

You will be surprised how quickly our dogs recover from such operations ( a lot faster than we would )

7 months is very young to be spayed, she is only a baby, none of her body growth or hormones have matured at all !

If Rose is feeling well enough to start running around she will do herself no harm, her body will tell her what she is able to do or what not to do although too much jumping and very rough play may not be adviseable too soon.

I can not see why Rose can not start having some gentle walks with you on the lead, I'm sure she will let you when she has had enough.

Remember to keep their crates covered with an old blanket or something that will help to make them more private and den like !

Our dogs just love their crates, the doors are open 24/7 there is always a dog sleeping in one of them.

Do you have a baby gate that you could put across a door way to keep them seperated ?

Good luck.
