Three open dogs have gone down with the cough - J.20, Blue Reflections and BallyBoy. The club have decided to suspend all further race meetings until further notice to try and stamp out this highly contagious cough. Hopefully we will not hear of anymore but those that have it will not be racing for 3 weeks.

A great pity as this club was just getting going and those dogs above were in training for forthcoming opens.

Sorry to hear little Ballyboy is poorly :( Sash ,Belle and humans wish him a speedy recovery :luck: :luck: :luck:

:( its everywhere at the mow (w00t) kept my dogs away from the track 4 weeks now from my first dog coughing Hellbound the night of bend champs and he's never been to a race track for over a year, the last 3 dogs to get it were the dogs that race, only 1 dog out of the 8 not to get it was jimmy one of the pups, but really don't think my dogs got it from the track

but think your doing the right thing

heard the peds down south have cancelled a couple of opens down south where the cough is rife.

well done fordingbridge the right way to go,if its not stamped out it will just go round and round.

aycliffe traps are sprayed as is the lure, new one for the derby but all will be sprayed after each days racing at the derby foot bath provided for owners and dogs.

would it be the right way to go ban all meeting for a month??????? but the cough is not just in our sport it going round in general. spraying and foot dips will help.it seems more servere this year its normally around at this time but dies out.

The lure will have to be cleaned after every race (ie) saliva off the dogs, its air bourne David so if your dogs are going to get it, they will get it :(

You don't know your dog as got it, until it coughs, so your dog could seem to be perfectly healthy, but unaware to you it's carrying the infection and you could be innocently passing it on to others, it's a vicious circle.

I think you're right - it wont stop it outright but it'll surely be better than nothing, i just hope that people take other people's dogs into account this weekend and if they've got dogs showing symptons stay well away.

think a lot of dogs will be missing this weekend, the problem is that when dogs are getting the cough if the owner/s have other dogs that are not coughing they are still taking them to the track when they should keep all the dogs in the kennel away from other dogs

the cough is like the dog has something stuck in its throat, dry reaching cough.

benylin/// and manuka honey (or any honey) 3 times a day. 5 year ago skye picked it up in the village. week before scotland,so we missed a great fortnight :( must agree if you have a few dogs 1 coughing the rest ok bot they could carry :(

manuka honey is natural healer £7 at morrison active 10(would be£15 in a health shop active 25 is the best but very expensive 10 is good enough put it on there breakfast each day i get to lick the spoon :D .

but if it persists go to vet may need a course amoxicilliam or similar.

The anti-biotics will not have any effect on the cough itself but will stop the often more dangerous secondary infections.

Our dog Blue Reflections started with the cough on Tuesday at lunch time.

We have been giving him Benylin for dry chesty coughs 4 x day, + 1 tsp honey

3 x day and 1 x vitam c tablet daily. Today ( Friday ) the cough is hardly noticeable and he is full of himself, because he hasn't been out of the house since he started to cough. We will not be going anywhere near a race track with him for at least another 2/ 3 weeks.

Fortunately we only have one dog, it must be a nightmare if you have more, your just waiting for the next one to start.

As others have said I hope owners take a responsible attitude and don't take dogs to a track if they have others at home who are coughing..

Glad Blue is a bit better Doreen. Likewise Sam has improved greatly and hardly coughs at all now. However Rocky has got it very mildly, only coughs when he is excited.

I hope no-one who has had it recently or with other dogs who have been in contact with one who has had it, goes to the Derby. We will never stamp it out until we stay at home and away from other dogs.

Hi Audrey, pleased to hear your little dog is improving, but I think it was inevitable

that your other dogs will get it, sadly it means that you will not be able to get to a race track for quite some time, and I know that you and Shirley were planning

to go to the Fed Champs as your dogs were running well at the club.

best wishes

Doreen

my dogs have the cough and they have not been out the door since Azuro Punto and Blue Biscuit
