Hi,

Is anybody else having a bout of kennel cough? We went to the Meynell Hunt show on Sunday, and on Monday,Ted and Cracker came down with Kennel cough, today Finn is coughing,so far Spike seems o.k.Ted and Cracker are a lot better today, but just wanted to let anyone know who was at that show.Of coarse, they could have picked it up anywhere,i am having them vaccinated for it when they each have there yearly jabs.

I sympathize with you!! all 7 dogs had it 2 months ago, its horrible! as if they have got something stuck in their throat :(

We used honey & glycerine and a homeopathic tablet which seem to have worked, if you want the name of it let me know!!

Hope they dont suffer too much!! :(

Vets now can not do both together ( well thats what my vets says ) they have to have 10-14 days apart

Sorry they are poorly , Hope they get better asap Jackie

Sad news Amanda :( it's been about for a few months like Ann said.

it takes about a week to 10days for symptoms to show ie coughing gagging, and now they will be highly infectious through air and direct contact until they stop coughing and if you have saliva on you and touch another dog you could pass it on. my vet does boosters and kennel cough together

hope they feel better soon x

Totally agree with Jo, sometimes I do not think people realise how CONTAGIOUS it is. 'Goran' caught it a couple of years ago & was very poorly. Since then I have vaccinated against it & my Vet also does the booster & kennel cough vaccine together.

She did mention that 'Children's Benylin Cough mixture' will help to soothe their throat, but it does not treat the virus. Apparently even your clothes can carry the spores !!!

As Jo says the incubation period is quite lengthy, so doubt very much that your dogs caught it at the show.

Hope they get better soon, it really is a horrible thing to watch your hounds experience....

Hi Yes,it,s terrible.I think people know how contagious it is,its just that some dont care!!We have been very careful to road walk ours away from any other dogs,as the last thing i would want is to pass it on,and make someones elses dogs miserable :(

Ted and Cracker have fought it off,now poor Finn is hacking

Hopefully they will all be well in a few days and loads of TLC from me

Mine all had a cough last December/January but it wasn't true kennel cough and not all of them had it.

It only lasted between a day and 3 days max with one of them so my vet put it down to being a simple respiratory infection without the severity of full-blown kennel cough.

I've heard that kennel cough is around the Devon area again so I shall be extra careful when mine are out and about at shows. Interestingly enough, dogs that have been vaccinated can shed live virus for up to 3 days after vaccination and are therefore contagious/infectious to other dogs during that time. It's a real lottery and the vaccine isn't guaranteed to protect them either (w00t)

Oh dear, this is not good to hear - it is a horrible thing for them to suffer. :(

It does annoy me when people who know their dogs have something contagious and still take them to a show to pass it on  why not just stay at home and nurse your dogs better.

I hope it isnt spreading to much as im in Devon this weekend for a show and i dont want my dogs to get it.

I get my jabbed against it but like Jane says it dont always stop them from getting it....i have had protected dogs get it.

I hope yours get better soon Amanda - plenty of love will help xxx
