KEWELL
Kewell is an 18 month old greyhound girl. She is a very pretty girl, with a soft brindle coat, amber eyes and a slender build.
Kewell is very lively for a greyhound and needs a bit of lead training as she can pull. She gets on fine with the other greyhounds in the kennels and loves when people come to visit her. Kewell would make a perfect playmate for another dog and would fit nicely in to an active family. We think that once she discovers what toys are all about shes very likely to become addicted!
Kewell has never raced so has the potential to be ok living with cats. This will be thoroughly tested before she can go to a home with cats, but anyone with cats who is interested in her are free to enquire further. She will likely go to a foster home once one with cats becomes available to make sure she is comfortable living with kitties as well as getting her used to living in a home for the first time.
**UPDATE 07/2010**
Kewell has now moved to a foster home in Norfolk, UK that she is sharing with a cat to see if she is truly suitable to live in a home with felines. This is the first time this gorgeous girl has never been in a home, so she is also learning the basic do’s and don’t’s of living in a house. Her housetraining is coming along nicely. We will update with her progress shortly.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE 08/2010**
Kewell has sadly proved to like cats a bit TOO much and as such is not suitable to live with them safely. She has been moved to a new foster home where she is settling in fabulously and is learning to enjoy life.
Kewell is learning the in’s and out’s of home life, and is slowly coming out of her shell. She is very friendly with people of all ages and we feel she would do well as a family dog. She is clean in the house, fine to be left and loves travelling in the car. She is eating well now too and is putting some weight on to her slender frame. She is 24” to the shoulder.
Kewell’s lead training is improving and her fosterer is working on this daily. It is quite clear she has never been walked and doesn’t seem to know why she is going on a walk, tending to be a bit all over the place before realising what direction she’s supposed to walk in! Once she settles down she is much better however, and she does love being out and about, experiencing all the sights and sounds.
Kewell is well behaved with other dogs, large and small, though if small dogs are running around loose she can get excited by the movement and we feel muzzling her when offlead is a safe precaution right now. This will improve once she gets used to seeing other dogs being dogs, as she doesn’t seem to have had much chance to interact with them before. She greets them beautifully on the lead, but when other dogs start to play she gets a little timid and unsure of what is going on. It shouldn’t take her too long though to learn how to play with them.
Kewell is a little treasure of a dog, and once her ‘rough edges’ are smoothed out she’s going to be a truly fantastic family member.
This girl is currently in a foster home in Norfolk, UK. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea’d and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in adopting Kewell, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. We don’t think you will regret it!
~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~
Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England and operates through a network of volunteers. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in both Ireland and the UK.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA. We work hard to match the right hound to the right home, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
