KOOKIE

**UPDATED: 9th OCTOBER 2012**

Meet the stunning Kookie and form an orderly queue! Kookie is a 2 year old greyhound girl who has never raced and is looking to find a forever family to call her own. Kookie is a real stunner – she has a light fawn coat and bright, intelligent eyes that show a lovely character waiting within her. This little lady is going to be a truly fantastic family member for a lucky someone.

Kookie was in a home on trial for a few weeks but has sadly come back to us now as her owner’s working hours changed recently. Kookie was being kept as an only dog, and when her owner ended up having to work all day, the poor darlin’ was cooped up too long and started showing signs of anxiety and boredom. Now Kookie is in a foster home with 3 other greyhounds and is an ace girlie.

~ Personality ~

Kookie is a pure delight to be around. She is very friendly, adores her walks, and soaks up any hugs and kisses that come her way. She is still young at heart and likes to be kept busy, but does definitely adore her evening sofa snuggles! We hope she won’t have to wait very long to find her lifelong home, especially since she has come so very close already.

~ In the Home ~

Kookie has transitioned from kennels to home quite well. She is quiet through the night and really loves playing with her toys in the garden. She adores people and is very interactive. Kookie can become clingy around the house and would benefit from the early establishment of boundaries. Sometimes a small bit of ignoring is a good healthy thing. This clinginess has the potential to develop into separation anxiety if she bonds to closely and quickly to her new owners, but with the right levels of affection and discipline, she will truly flourish. Kerry Greyhounds UK has a behaviourist on hand to help you with this if needed.

~ Other Animals ~

Kookie is very good with other dogs, and really would be happiest in a home with another dog or three. She should slot well into an already balanced pack, and she gets great enrichment from socialising with other dogs of all ages. She is sharing her current foster home with 3 other greyhounds and gets on really well with them all. Kookie is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Kookie loves her walks very much, and she’s a joy to take out. She walks well on the lead and is very curious about all going on around her. She loves travelling in the car and is very quick to settle for the journey. This lady is going to be a fantastic family member and showing her the big wide world is going to be such a rewarding experience.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Kookie is currently in a foster home in Hertfordshire, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to her foster home to meet and collect her.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

Our Website: Kerry Greyhounds UK

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I (Tam) can be contacted through the following email:
