Just wandering if anybody has any idea why dogs eat their poo.

My greyhoundXWhippet is 8 months old has started to eat her own poo, I got told by someone that this means they lack in something?

Any comments?

stick some pinaple in her food and she wont eat her poo some pups just do it one of mine does if she gets the chance and shes nearly 7 now but pinapple allways breaks the habit

no idea why they do it i once asked my vet about it and his reply was if he knew he would stop his border collie's from doing it,just recycling i suppose

never heard of giving them pineapple but it's worth a go

is that tinned or fresh

ive also done some research on this :- "

nothing to worry about just a discusting habit :x

my mums dog used to do it but has thankfully grown out of it

most important not to make a fuss and try and clear the mess up before they have chance to eat it.

pineapple is an excellent idea

tinned pineapple is fine john you,ll need a few chunks in each meal,it stops mine but when you stop the pineapple they tend to start again,

Its something to do with ythe enzymes in breakdown of pineapple that stops it.

i read somewhere thats its because there is still protein in the poo and thats why they eat it---maybe feeding on too rich a diet is the problem --try maintenance food rather than race food cut down on protein and feed more carbs--see if that helps

Then theres the problem of dogs eating 'other dogs poo'

One of ours eats dog poo (not her own), ferret poo, fox poo and rolls in it!

Then she tries to lick your face. (w00t)

Mine eat it if I feed veg. so no veg for them. I also give charcole biscuits that seems to work.

a firm from durham have a product called deter in tablet form.

60 tabs £5.35

120 tabs£9.60

www.hyperdrug.com.

good luck
