Margaret,

These nice compliments are bad for my ' hard man' image BUT my wife says I am getting more pleasant as I get older!

I was delighted to have some more terrier and lurcher folk present and in spite of the weather - my first wet press reception in 34 years! we got good coverage including on the 7.30 show next week and great political support for the Game Fairs and COUNTRYSPORTS including Minster Arlene Foster ( a mess age of support from Dr Leo Varadkar minster in the ROI); Simon Hamilton ( Finance Minster designate) and our old friend Jim Shannon MP.

Couple of group shots attached and Arlene Foster and Simon Hamilton getting into promoting gundogs.

A great piece of PR and advertising for your shows AJ in a truly magnificent setting  the shooters/gundog supporters in their tweeds, the terrier lads in moleskins and the ferreter in his deer stalker truly looked the part and had made the effort to raise the bar  and then the lurchers let down by the guy in a pair of jeans  any wonder the lurchers get looked down upon

So Sammy why was there only one person on the day wearing jeans? I agree everyone else had dressed for the occassion and very presentable they were too, a credit to their sport but once again lurchers being looked down upon through inappropriate dress code

Nellie i have never once thought that the Lurchers were looked down on, i take the greatest pride in been part of them, especially when they are on the starting line slipping there pride and joys, myself included, when i have to do it lol so Nellie your biggest issue is "why was one person on the day wearing jeans" all i can say to that is, its such trivial thing.., why should it matter to you Nellie, didnt matter to us who were there... Sammy i enjoyed the day and your company but dont be so quick to point the finger..

Nellie,

I enjoy all country sports people's company and as a doggy fantatic since a boy particularly doggy people's company. I look down on no one and this might sound trite nor 'up to anyone.' Although I do admire excellence in people should that be intelligence, knowledge or skills.

And I have to say the dogs as you can see from the photographs were a credit to everyone - this very much included the lurchers and whippets - a real credit to their owners. Personally I prefer to see a well turned out dog than a well turned out owner but the dress code was tweeds, sporting costume or 'smart casual'. I thought everyone met those criteria.

Albert J have you ever stated that you were trying to raise the profile of lurchers at your shows? on a level with other competing breeds of dogs at your shows?

CLOTHES MAKETH THE MAN ;)

In all these years of being a "doggy fanatic" how many competitors have you seen at gundog trials(that is your forte) dressed in jeans?

final question no ifs or buts,YES or NO would you of been happy if everyone turned up at Stormont wearing jeans?

Nellie,

I didn't know who you were referring to but I see its my old friend John Humphries. I have to say I didn't notice that he was in jeans as he always turns out smartly - indeed we complimented him on his sharpness of dress at Newtownards.

I have seen competitors in all sorts of dress at tests and trials and even at formal driven shoots. In fact now when shooting, although I have tweed suits, I tend to wear more technical clothing - it is all down to personal taste.

It makes for good photographs to have a lot of tweeds about but as I said our dress code was tweeds or smart casual.

No I would not have liked everyone to turn up in jeans but I did not have a problem with John wearing jeans.

How observant of you Albert not noticing that your "old friend" JH was in jeans

Bluebell -I included you when praising the smart turn out of guests  now you certainly dont dress like that when attending racing and showing events, so you made the effort for the occassion where as the gent in the jeans could of just come from or been on his way to a show/race event

Sorry if you cant see the difference
