i want to let jake free run over the fields. they are fenced but not overly high and probably with a few gaps (farmers field) but i am not sure he will come back when i call him.

he is 5 months. some times he comes when i call and sometimes he ignores me.

at what age/stage should i let him off the lead to have a big run (if ever)

all the info sites say never as if he sees a rabbit for example he will run off and could get knocked down.

any tips would be gratefully recieved.

We have a childrens area over the park which is totally enclosed. Although there is a sign which says No Dogs no one seems to mind if you let youngsters off the lead to train them when there are no children playing. I always make sure they have a walk beforehand so theres no mess.

Perhaps you have somewhere like this in your local area that you could use for a short time to train. Falling that what about obedience classes

Good luck :luck:

No problem, you would have never found it, it was quite a few pages back :)

that's probably my fault, I should have put the link in FAQ, but I don't always spot stuff that's useful :b I'm going to add it in under Exercise so it's easy for other people to find. Hughes0, there is quite a lot of other stuff in FAQ you might find useful with your new pup, lots of previous threads about training, insurance, feeding etc. Maybe have a browse when you have time? :)
