what does everyone think about making it mandatory for all whippet owners to have a licence to own a whippet  and to keep it upto date with breeding details. this would bring in revenue plus breeders would know exactly where there pups were at all times.

good thinking pat, would be very useful,we all sell pups

then finish up not knowing were they are,as some get past

from pillow to post and you never hear of them again, sometimes i wish i didn't know were mine were,(only kipping sorry i mean kidding) he must be worrying me steve

???   :(   :)   ;) just like kyly, i just cant get you out of my head

How would this work?

It sounds like a good idea but how could you make people keep the records up to date?

if i sold you apup ,it would have to be put on your lience,if you wanted to sell the pup on[god forbid] they would have to have it put on their licence .it is the only way to keep track on the dogs. why cant we have a data bank like the greyhounds have :p

thats a great idea pat wish i thought of it ???  ??? you could also make it possible that the whippets had to be chipped that would help if any were lost or stolen all my dogs are chipped weve just had the pup done

:p what a brilliant idea denise ,how much does this ear chipping cost it would certainly ease a lot of troubled minds just to know that if their dogs were lost the chipping would aid the recovery of their beloved pets/racing dogs, this ear chipping may be the answer to what we are looking for,but we still need a breeding data bank, anyone any ideas please answer. ???   ;) was that kipper laughing neil :D

heard a lot of stories about chips not being able

to be detected,if someone nick's your dog they wont be

racing showing ect if they know your gonna be there, but if lost then they can be useful as they can be scanned and the dog returned  home as soon as possible without being put

through any stress

chipping is a good idea, but I've heard stories about police/dogs homes either not scanning them or not detecting them-but the pro's(finding you're dog safe) outweigh the cons( :( ).

when I breed a litter I am careful who I sell to, and i would rather one of my pups going to a pet home guaranteed for life than to racers who pass dogs around  . A license/data base would be a good idea IF it could be maintained.

Whilst i agree with the principal and think it is a good idea i would think it unworkable as even when you required a licence there is always those who did not conform and if you happened  to see a bitch or dog whilst out on your travells and it was for sale you would not no the breeding of it and it might be a stunner i quite often see pets that have been either given away or even sold that have the breeding of champions but did not make the grade themselves and i have been ask if i could line them with kipper but said no as he is to young at present but if i was to there would be 5 or six pups that could end up as racers and no one would no the blood lines this could happen in every area which would throw the whole system into chaos but worth looking intoa lot of effort would be required though i think.

yes steve i know what you are saying is right but we would have to have a systemwhere you had to apply for a licence toput a dog up for stud duties or to mate a bitch it is probably a pipe dream ,but it would be nice to know exactly where the pups we breed are all the time.

yes its a good idea because two of my current dogs have had a bad start to their racing career as they were ill treated from when they were bought. so we have not had them racing since they were roughly about 12 months old, but with alot of TLC we got them up and running ( and doing well so far).

this licence thing would be brilliant but if the costs are to high it might drive people out of their beloved hobbie as it cost to go away now and thats only with the petol prices and then adding the registration fees on top ( that if you have loads of whippets to race) Cheers Ronnie

I also agree it is a good idea but you cant be sure every pup the breeders sell will go to a good home. Everyone buying a pup say they will love it look after it but ect but you cant always be sure can you

it would seem that some of us dont like a bit of fun so i have withdrawn my thread as it was upsetting a member this was not the intention when written but was taken to heart therefore i will say i reget my missjudgement of that persons humor it was intended to be taken as a bit of fun  sorry if it upset you so much!!!!!!!
