My dog has licked the fur from her rear legs round to her tail and her front legs too, she is happy in herself, still eating, drinking, playing, enjoying her walks.
I’ve tried changing her food just after any ideas before I go the vets route

Can you help with more information? Does she seem irritated in those areas, or could it be caused by distress, boredom, something else?

Ultimately though, I think you do need a vet to see her.

No there is nothing on her skin that I can see as in a sore area that could be causing her to lick, she has been doing it on and off for a year but never felt the need for the vets as she is absolutely fine in herself, just looks awful but because it’s been on and off for so long just thinking she might need some blood tests to rule everything out

There are some hormonal conditions that can cause hair loss, so I wonder - is the hair loss because she is licking, or is she licking because she has lost hair.

Please do let us know how you get on. Hopefully it will be easily sorted.
