Carrickfergus pound in Co Antrim received 28 dogs in one day towards the end of last week. Most were lurchers/longdogs, both puppies and adults. They are beautiful dogs and appear to be in good condition. Many of them are saluki type. The pound already had a few greyhound and greyhound type lurchers among its inmates. It is a pound where staff look after the dogs well and do their best to keep them alive and get them rehomed or into rescue. But sometimes they just don't have the space (and being a council pound, they can't refuse to take dogs in). The new intake wouldnt be rehomeable until the end of this week. It is likely that some will go to rescues in GB. You can see photos on "Gales Doggie Page" on facebook.

Craigavon pound in Co Armagh almost always has lurchers in. They have had several bull lurchers for adoption recently. There are some lurchers who have been in the pound quite a long time now
