Could you good people help me with this one, please. I'm discussing in Finland about the word longdog.

I said that it's a term used of a sighthound x sighthound cross. But I was told, it's an out of date word, and it has been replaced by the word lurcher nowadays. :ermm:

I was given as reference Desmond Morris: Dogs - the Ultimate Dictionary of over 1000 Dog Breeds "To other recent authors, however, this distinction is outdated. They referred to both types of crosses as Lurchers, with the term Longdog being considered 'so rarely used these days as to be meaningless'. "

Does anybody use the word longdog anymore?

Yes- longdog is used for sighthoundXsighthound

We got our greyhounds from Whitelodge Longdogs, and we all refer to our dogs as longdogs or longies. I think it's more a term of affection now as in long legs, long noses, long tails etc!
